E.Brown evaluation....

Then who would you have replaced him with?

My point is that good FOs will draft the postions that need a few years to groom in advance. So that is why I agree with picking up Brown.

Hilee Taylor Basically a cheaper and less costly Brown.

you really seem to love masking exceptions as rules

name me 5 game breaking WRs 5'9'' or shorter and less than 190 lbs.

I mean really Name me 5 game breaking WRs 6'4 and taller?

The way I see it there is only about 3 or 4 Game breaking WRs in the NFL right now....

Exactly. The Everette Brown move was a failure.

i mean who knows if it's a failure

two years down the road if he turns into a quality starter than you can hardly say it was a failure

at the time though it was a terrible move, and currently it looks like a terrible move.

Mario Williams was a failure too. Houston should have taken Reggie Bush.

i really hate when people make this stupid kind of argument

do you know how unfugingbelievably easy it would be for me to counter with vernon gholston? kamerion wimbley? tamba hali? Mathias Kiwanuka?

do you have any grasp of the wider scope of the nfl draft and talent evaluation process at all?

I wanna ask you guys this. Would E. Brown be a top 10 pick if he had stayed in school this year? You all know the answer would be yes. He would have raised havoc in the ACC his senior year. About a 1/4 of you would be saying we need to draft a DE in the 1st round and a QB in the second. Most of us would be going HELL YEAH when we drafted Brown in the 1st round of the 2010 draft. We would definitely be talking about taking a DE this draft especially when we let Peppers walk.

He might be undersized but our greatest player was undersized Sam Mills. So to me that isn't a valid argument. He is motivated to be better and is doing everything to make himself better. What more do you want?

Those of you screaming for Canty where was the money supposed to come from? Do you think he was going to take 2nd round money for it? We got 1st round talent a year ahead and a year ahead of when he could come out.

IMO the trade was well worth it and will pay dividends next season when Pep is gone.

Go Panthers

So you think that Brown is more likely to turn out like the above listed "talent" than like Williams? I think you are crazy.

People really need to just judge him 'as a player' and forget about what we gave up. What we gave up will be assessed a couple of years down the line when it is established if he is a full time player or not.

Interesting comment Raging. I much prefer it when people actually discuss!

Whoever said Hilee just needs to think about who would be playing on first and second downs. Johnson, Brayton and Taylor is a limited DE corp, Brown is also producing a heck of a lot more than Hilee has so far in his career. So whilst he is cheaper, he certainly is not better or the same. Brown is not exactly expensive considering we picked him up in the second round...

Some of you people are ******* pathetic !!!!!

He came out early, he is a rookie, he has had limited playing time, and that is all that needs to be said. Get a grip.

Get your judgmental asses out there and do a better job, and then we can convert the talk to about you.

I didn't mind at the time of the draft as much but when both Gilbert and Johnson ended up being there in the 2nd when we picked I was disappointed. I think Johnson brings the same pass rush DE that brown gives you without giving up a 1st. And if for some reason he gets drafted then you take a nice consolation prize in Gilbert who has off the charts potential at the 3 tech DT position with his block shedding and speed (the Bears are using him at DE add 15 pounds and he is a perfect 3 tech). Its not that we gave up a 1st its that we didn't have to. If Brown came out this year he probably wouldn't even be a day 1 selection. But thats all speculation "as it is what it is".

Explain this. Let me guess because he isn't dominating at the Pro level as he did at Florida State you think his stock would drop. Please. He would have been EASILY double digits sacks and numerous tackles for loss. Easily TOP 10 draft choice. We got our replacement for JP a year early. Same round he would have gone in had he stayed in school. Most definitely an NEED going into the 2010 draft.

The bonus for us is we got him a year early and he has a year of experience under his belt. This is a win for Hurney. You all might not see it now...but next year and the year after this will be a brilliant pickup.

In a considerably weaker draft class he made it all the way to the 2nd. What makes you think he would be higher this year. He fell not due to his production or work ethic but due to his size. That would still be here this draft and he would be facing more talented competition at every position for draft stock. Why do you think he declared early in the 1st place?

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
