Panthers QB Moore still kicking himself over conservative play call Sunday

“As soon as I didn’t make that call (to throw), I was walking off the field like ‘You’ve got to trust yourself and go with it and make a big play,’” Moore said. “I think you’ve just got to go with it. Trust what you see and go with it. Make the call and move on.”

When Moore got to the sidelines quarterback coach Rip Scherer questioned the decision, telling Moore, “What’s going on? That’s the look we wanted.”

But Moore couldn’t pull the trigger. He said he won't make that mistake again.

It still made no sense to run. It wasn't as if we didn't already have the field goal. You go back to throw and if smitty or Moose aren't open, you throw it away. That is the same kind of playing not to lose that everyone complains all the time about. I guess that is a by product of him being in that system. He has learned the conservative appraoch.

My new QB is growing up before my eyes. I really think he would make better decisions if the org. dubbed him the QB for the rest of the year. It would then remove the fear of a mistake putting him back on the bench. He's going to experience growing pains but he doesn't need to be looking over his shoulder.

Could not agree more. Whilst telling him i private he is starting, coming out and telling the world would do him wonders. As it is, he is trying not to lose us games because he is expecting Delhomme to come back in. If he knows that the season is down to him, then he can go and try to win the games.

So if the Coaches are giving our QB's a pass and run option and they choose which to go with on the field...that means the games were it appeared Fox was forcing Runs in key situations to shield Jake from throwing INT was in fact Jake making the choice? Some of which carried over to Moore I guess

Added coach John Fox: “Without getting into too much detail, I thought Matt did some good things and some things we've just got to continue to improve on. But I thought he played well enough for us to win.”

I swear to GOD.....I hate this fvcker more and more every second of everyday, and even more when he opens his mouth to only spew the stupid sh!t he does on a consistent basis. It is the ONLY thing he has EVER done consistently!!!!

I'm so sick of him. :out: :banghead:

not every call is the "check with me" option they give the QB. You can tell the plays they give the "check with me" call they were refering to on that down.

Interesting none the less. It could give a huge indication into some of Jake's performances where they were baiting him to throw, so that when he did have the option he went with the throw.

Then when his confidence was show, he stuck purely to the run.

Obviously this option does not happen often, but it's an added insight into what is going on in Jake's head.

Oh, no doubt they defenses know and have that figured out.....and are absoutely wanting them to check to the pass. B/c even if the WR are open (which is rare) odds have favored Jake making a mistake.

I think Moore has watched Jake giveway points and opportunities all year.....plus, he has a coach that appears to still want Jake in.....and he is trying to play it too safe and smart (which Moore I guess admitted) and trying to get to play one more game.

    • Immediately cast blame? We had been talking about the bad throws to Hunter (the missed TDs and hospital ball) for days leading up to that injury report.   And yeah, the rib injury then becomes something to point out.  and you are getting desperate with this projected extremism.  No one  said you should never throw seams.  I shared with you an article after you scoffed at seams being routes you can get hung out to dry on….and it was the best of the best talking about the dangers of those routes.   And they talked about it because they threw them a lot and there dudes were at risk so the throws really matter.  Because you can hurt your receivers.  we disagree, cool.  I got a pro Bryce former NFL QB calling it a hospital ball and bad throw.  So I got a plus +1 making my argument.  Find a QB that backs your take.
    • You exclusively highlighted Hunter's name on the injury report and then immediately cast blame. I've pointed out that this wasn't the hospital ball you claim it to be while also acknowledging that there could have been another option to target instead of Renfrow. By everything you've expressed here, you don't think seam routes should ever be thrown. I don't know how that helps the already struggling offense, but I do know that it would make it even worse than it already is. Scapegoating never has and never will solve anything. Tell you what: Try not blaming Bryce or casting shade his way for the entire week after Arizona and instead look at the other 21 starters and assess what they're doing (again, without shading Bryce). I'll join you and refrain from exploring what the rest of the team is doing and will focus solely on what Bryce needs to do better. Deal? This is a sincere peace offering to allow us to explore the other's perspective and perhaps be even more informed football fans.
    • TMac PI throw was a TD too.  Bryce just drastically under threw it.  Renfrow and TMac set themselves up to BOTH have great days.   the story of last of no one was open…..isn’t a defense the Bryce Young defenders can use so far this year
