The automatic speculation will go to Jon Gruden since Allen worked with him in both of his prior jobs. With Gruden having just extended his ESPN contract though, it seems unlikely.

There needs to be a line in which an owner does not cross in regards to day to day football operations. In the same breath, sometime an owner does need to step in though.

I imagine Skins fans are happy. Cerrato has been holding that franchise back for a while now, and his close ties with Snyder kept him in that job a little bit too long for anyone's tastes.

Why do people think Gruden is a good coach?

Typically a broadcast contract with an ex-coach would include an out if he wanted to take a particular coaching job.

I look at what Allen/Gruden did to the bucs and wonder what the hell Snyder is thinking. Thank gawd I'm not a skin fan.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that, indeed, Shanahan and the Redskins have been talking about just such an arrangement.

Klis also explains that Shanahan and Allen are indeed a package deal
