One thing we know for sure now...

One thing we know for sure now, after the win against the Vikings, is that we could be a legitimate contender with good QB play. 99.9% of our problems this year have been caused by Jake's performance. It's rare that you can lay almost all the blame on one player, but this is one of those rare occasions. We have a good enough team that we don't need the QB to win it for us, we need a game manager.

I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but this makes me consider giving Fox/Hurney one more season to get this thing turned around. Sunday night demonstrated that we are a QB away from being a very good team and this is the house that Fox/Hurney built. You can blame Fox for not pulling the plug on Jake sooner, that's fair, but you have to consider the politics of that decision - it's not just a football decision. Right now, the Titans have climbed back to .500 with Vince Young and Jeff Fisher is off the hot seat, but remember that Bud Adams insisted Fisher start Young when they were 0-6. If I was Mr. Richardson, after watching Sunday night's game I would be very tempted to let Fox finish out the final year of his contract, but I would also keep him on a short leash and monitor our QB situation very closely.

Balls mishandled/tipped by our own receivers or they run wrong routes. Balls kicked to defenders. 10 of 18 ints came while under pressure. Defense that at one point was giving up rushing yardage at 4.8 ypc average. We've improved that to 4.6 making a whole 3 teams in the league worse. 99.9% on Jake. We can certainly fix all that and be Superbowl bound in 2010 by starting Matt "BY GOD" Moore.:rolleyes:

Game manager is code for an average QB with a great team around with..why settle for an average QB that can't lead us down the field in the 4th?

because it beats the pants off of a starting a quarterback who single handedly loses the game in the first quarter for us?

@sultan

our defense has been good all year long, especially if u take away the bad field position and points jake let up due to picks. even with the injuries we've taken, we would be at LEAST 9-7 this year if jake didn't play.

You cant take away bad field position and points jake gave us. That is part of the game and that is what I was talking about in my original post. I guess my expectations are high with my team. Ive seen blown coverages and Ive seen us gashed by Rbs at the line of scrimmage. unless you can stop the run you arent a great defense. We have improved and I was very impressed with our defense against the vikings.

Hey, if we can get the next Peyton Manning I'm all for that - but we don't need to find the next Peyton Manning to win, we just need a guy that's not a liability.

you cant plug all your holes in any season. if every team waited until they were perfect at every position they would never have superbowl. every team has flaws the good ones minimize them. the bad ones let them take them down.

Agreed, but the problem is that flaws at particular positions on a football team are more difficult to overcome.

There are very few teams that can compensate for bad QB play. All we needed for the QB position this season was to not make the big mistakes. Problem is, Jake was turning the ball over way too many times. We never needed him to carry this team....just to not hurt it.

If we would have brought in Hollis Thomas earlier and cut down on the interceptions, the Panthers would be right in the Wildcard hunt this season....this I have no doubts about.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
