Eh....Don't think so...at least not in reality.  What we recall isn't as rosy as we think it was.

We are MUCH more civil than any time in our history.

That said, SPORT does take the place (to a certain extent) of our desperate love of combat.  Unfortunately, men need to fight/compete/prove, not all, but many, until their mid to late 20's.

Instead of beating everyone over the head and dragging women around by the hair, we just box, play football, practice martial arts, throw discus, play basketball, etc...it somewhat takes the place of that weird internal desire.

Some need to fight more than others, many of them are "die hard" fans.
