Who's New in Black and Blue next year?

I know there are a lot of draft threads already, but I am not the biggest college football fan, probably not until 2013 when the Charlotte 49ers get a team.

In saying that, I was very curious as to who might be available when we finally draft that you think the Panthers will pick up. Not really who you want, but who they might go after.

Obviously, there are needs, (QB, WR, DL, etc.), but what position and player might be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds when the Panthers pick?

Realistically the best QB we would probably have a chance at is Tony Pike, but even that could get screwed up because Locker is waiting until '11 to enter the draft. I wouldn't argue against getting Pike if he is available, but if he goes, we should pick up a WR like Dezmon Briscoe or Mardy Gilyard in the second. Then, we could hit up Dan LeFevour in the 3rd. After that, I could see us picking up some OL depth and maybe some DL depth.

QB doesn't seem as dire as it would have been if Matt had came in an absolutely stunk it up, but an open QB competition (Excluding Jake) should definitely be in this teams future.

I agree as WR as the #2 issue we have to fix, but we also have to see how our current WR's should be utilized.. hell look at the saints, half of their offense is full of nobodies but they obviously have great position by position coaches on their staff, which leads to my next point.

Our coaching staff needs as serious a overhaul as ever.. At least on the Offensive side and especially the Special Teams.

Anyways to the topic, this should strictly be a BPA type draft like last years draft, especially since we seemingly don't have many flaws in any particular position except QB *which is debatable* WR, and our interior defensive line.

BPA all the way next year. At least then we'll be done with the whole losing our first round pick thing.

honestly i prediected that we were trading out 1st rounder away last year because of fox and hurney morgating the future. And I bet we do it again. They're feelin the heat and if they stay it only gets hotter.

Here is who will be FA or RFA.

James Anderson* OLB RFA Tender/ Let walk if another club matches or exceeds.

Tyler Brayton DE UFA Re-sign vet min

Thomas Davis* OLB RFA Tender / new contract

A.J. Feeley QB UFA Let walk

Jeff King* TE RFA Tender/ Match any offers

Louis Leonard DT RFA Tender/ Let walk if matched

Rhys Lloyd PK RFA Tender but make him fulltime kicker

Richard Marshall* CB RFA Tender/ Let walk if another club matches

Josh McCown QB UFA Keep until after training camp

Matt Moore QB RFA Tender / or sign a 3 year deal

Muhsin Muhammad WR UFA Let walk

Julius Peppers DE UFA Let walk

Quinton Teal S RFA Tender/ Let walk

Hollis Thomas DT UFA Sign vet mim

Tank Tyler DT RFA Tender /Let walk

Keydrick Vincent OG UFA Vet mim

Dante Wesley CB UFA let walk

C.J. Wilson CB RFA Tender / let walk

So with the possible Free Agents. I would go WR first need, CB second, DT Third and then QB. The way I see it I would get a WR from Free Agency and Draft the rest.

QB might seem like a big need but Im just looking at filling the roster. We are going to need a good WR reason to pick one off of FA. Cornerback is going to be need stregthening if Marshall walks. QB all we need is one person and if we draft one he wont start next year anyway. Locked in with Jake and with the way Moore is progressing we will only have one slot open for QB. So the question becomes (if we dont cut Jake). Do you want a veteran QB or a rookie?

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
