Two moments that told me how much confidence the coaches had in Moore

what would an uncapped year in 2010 have to do with them tying up all their cap space in 2009 in a one year deal with peppers?
Time to convince Pep to stay and then being able to re-sign him without worrying about how to do it.

As I said, just a far-out theory I had in mind...

(Unless the issue was, as was denied by the Pep camp, really "about the money". Then my theory would make some sense)

For someone that pretends to know it all, you sure have a ton of questions.

First and foremost, they are people that deal with this stuff everyday, and maybe.......JUST MAYBE, they know something the great Zif doesn't know.

Secondly.....with the knowledge they have, that Zif doesn't have, they went all in, just like in Vegas to try and save their ass, OR, they did it knowing that next year they could spend whatever the hell amount of money they wanted, franchise tag and all. Pep can be franchised again. Smitty, but he isn't eligible I don't think.....will have to check.

I personal worry more about Smitty wanting to leave and QB, more than I do anything else right now with this organization.

Third option.....who the fvck else do they have/other than Smitty if he is at that point in his contract to franchise next year(that would be worth franchising) other than Peppers again, and go the deal that route, no matter if it is uncapped or not????

Fouthly(yeah I know it's not a word) they knew we wouldn't have a first round pick, knew we had at the very minimum 6, traded one during the season leaving us 5, not counting compensatory picks to work on our needs.

I can go on and on with this, and basically if it is an uncapped year, the number of draft picks mean jack sh!t, IODA NADA because the FA market is there for the taking should JR want to spend the money.

As I stated before, if it is an uncapped year, we have total depth on D, and O.....and the most important needs to be addressed would be WR and QB

Some safety and cornerback wouldn't hurt either. We have a solid team for the most part, 5 picks+whatever compensatory picks to fill a few voids. A lot of magic can be worked with those picks for what we need, uncapped or not.

So....now...does that answer your question, or do you have some other sly way to try and develop and argument?

The only thing with an Uncapped year is... Don't you think Dallas, NE, Philli, Wash and a few more bigger market teams will be signing FA's too. Jerry Jones has his new Castle seats to fill and will host the 2011 Super Bowl. I would tend to think he would be picking up FA's like they was Chess pieses...Pawns of Jerry Jones..lol. Jones and Snyder will spend money!!

why are you guys talking about drafting another young QB to groom?

if Moore is the guy, he's the guy. You're not going to groom a 22 year old with a 25 year old.

you don't draft another rookie in case Moore doesn't pan out. You get rid of Jake and bring in someone like Mark Redman, or Chad Pennington, or Jon Kitna. Someone that's just there to collect a pay check and share wisdom.

At some point you have to poo or get off the pot with QBs here.

Dear lord, I'm glad I'm not the only one that was going to say that

Both young, but since we have a younger one who's fine, we'll just go with him. Thats pretty much what people is saying

S.D did the same thing and gained nothing from it but a 2 year difference

1st half. When the Giants were going to punt the Panthers took a time out so they would have 1:31 left.

The other moment was the opening drive of the 2nd half. No way they run the same stuff with Jake the way they did with Matt.

Matt Moore is your starting qb next year. No need to worry about the draft.

Yes. I said don't worry about your draft.

I agree ^^^and I also will add to your quote. When I saw Julius Peppers come out to greet Matt Moore with a huge grin and a hand slap, I knew the team had confidence in him right then. I can't remember anytime seeing that type of gratitude from Peppers for Jake Delhomme. Matt Moore may be the reason Pepp sgns a long term contract!!

Moore may start, but we still need to draft a young QB to groom.

This may be true but we don't need to rush next year in the draft for a QB. 2011 would be a better year. We need to posture ourselves to get some draft picks in the stable

I don't understand the whole "Moore is good as a fill-in for a couple of years" crowd. Why is he only good for a couple of years? Is it because you don't want to admit that you were wrong about him? Is it because you cannot stomach the fact that a QB better than Jake has been on the roster this whole time?

I remember 2003 very vividly. I worked for the Panthers as an intern that season, and I remember the fans' reaction to Jake that year. They annointed him rather quickly as the future at the QB position. Let's take a look at Jake's first seven games starting as a Panther versus Matt's.

Jake - 2003

108 completions

189 attempts

1201 yards

7 TDs

5 INTs

Moore - 2007/9

114 completions

182 attempts

1392 yards

10 TDs

3 INTs

So, why was everyone so willing to annoint Jake in 2003, but Moore is only a capable fill-in for a couple of years? Granted, the guys played in different circumstances with different teams, but the foundation remains the same.

Moore has performed at a slightly higher level, but he still has to prove more. It seems rather ridiculous to me, especially considering how much leash everyone gave Jake.

He may not be the next Tom Brady but he is helping our team fire on all cylinders.

Take a look at how other coaches are defending against us now. We are lighting other teams up again with the run because they aren't stacking the box and forcing us to throw. Our checkdowns are actually being used when we are blitzed. His mobility is making our OL's job easier. Our receivers seem happier (ie. Moose's recent comments).

Our defense actually spend some time on the sidelines resting and they've been forcing lots of turnovers. Hell even Pep seems excited to be out there.

Get some legitimate competition at the WR position in training camp next year, get some coaching help for special teams and we will be dominant.

    • I think the book has been fairly written on Darnold, and by and large stays true. He can be rattled by pressure, and will lose his composure. If a team can get to him and have something go wrong in the plan, the mistakes and errors will pile up. Rams have a better offense, Seahawks sport a better defense. Should be a good 1.
    • Not a defense of him...an understanding of the problem. (something you seem to be lacking right now) 🙄 Bryce in a Canales offense is not an example of a stylistic mismatch, but I can give you one if that helps. When he was playing for the Panthers, Cam Newton sat under OC's running Coryell type offenses. Newton had a big arm and was a strong runner. He fit into that sort of attack very well. Then he goes to New England, where at the time they were running an Earhardt-Perkins system (similar to WCO In a lot of what they do but very different terminology). The Patriot offenses back then were heavily based on timing and rhythm style passing, not something that Newton was especially well suited for. So he washed out at New England, not because he had poor ability (his abilities had been on display here on a regular basis) but because he didn't fit what they wanted to do with their offense. I always go back to Jeff Garcia as one of the prime examples of this issue. Garcia in a WCO looked like a world beater. Put him in any other scheme though...yikes!  So again, Young's issues here have nothing to do with any failure to mesh with Canales. Hell, is say Canales has actually done pretty well at adapting his system to who he has rather than trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Again, it doesn't take an elite level of football knowledge to get this. It's pretty basic. But if you're not even capable of understanding what the real problem is, how are you going to know you to find the right solution? 🤔
