Illegal Man Downfield

Games are rarely won or lost on one play. That being said, Ickey getting an illegal man downfield, on the opposite side of the play, in which he did not affect the play at all put us from first and goal on the ten, to first and fifteen. Next play is a run for a loss of two. Next play is sack fumble for a TD which sealed the game.

That penalty was so mind numbingly stupid and literally changed the course of this game. I'm not saying we would have won, we probably still would have found a way to poo the bed but Ickey is quickly going from a sophomore slump to a negative factor weekly

Ickey has been. Frustratingly lost sometimes. Seems like the game moves to fast sometimes and he just wants to go hit smoothing far too often. He also can't hold his own against technique on the edge.

Might be time to look at kicking him inside. It might help our run game too.

I could point to many mind numbingly stupid plays during this game. That play is one of many that cost us the game. I think you'd be hard pressed pinning this loss on that single play when our only touchdown came from the defense.

That being said, Ickey HAS regressed for sure. The entire line has. Perhaps this "experienced" coaching staff needs to be revaluated.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
