what does the board think.....tates prob of the board when we pick also benn is prob gone. i think this kid has alot of upside and is under the radar. mel and todd have him in the second round if he comes out and think he fills the need of big number 2 we need.georgia tech does have a nice pedigree of wrs with the last big name being calvin johnson...tomas is in the same mold but might be a few steps slower. he cought fire towards the end of the season and was productive even in a run first option offense....

I posted this about him in the thread I started about the Panther's options at WR next season.

Coming out of Georgia Tech, the guy is big, fast, and has great hands. Physically, I don't think there is a match for him in the upcoming draft class. He reminds me of Andre Johnson. He's a specialist in deep route running. If you are shooting for a big guy rather than a someone quick like Tate that's where I would look in the second-third round.

After playing in GT's run first offense, the guy knows how to block, and is built to do so well. He would be the perfect compliment to our running game, and is easily the best replacement for Moose when it comes to run blocking. He's 6-3 230 lbs and is not easily matched up with by puny cornerbacks or safeties.

Let's see how the combine goes.

^^^^

We'll see. Dude is huge as hell, and nobody will be able to match him on the deep ball

The only thing people is concerned about is his ability to run other routes than the go. His 40 may been lower than people will think. Difference is he gets faster as he goes on cause of his long legs

If he do well at the combine, idk if we'll get him with our pick

of Thomas manhandling and outrunning just about every defense in the ACC while leading the nation in Yards Per Catch this year. Watch the play that starts at 47 seconds in when he owns a couple of Miami defensive backs. Not only is he fast and agile, but he runs like a truck.

that's not a problem. as long as we have a deep threat aside smitty (which we currently lack) we're set... smitty can have a hayday as an underneath threat. i would be in favor of this.

Jarrett is 6'4" and 219lbs.

I lose 2lbs on a good Zod.

Let's see how he comes off a blocker in the combines, his 40 speed, vertical, and cut ability before we crown him.

he has never run a route in his life and gets thrown to maybe twice a game

he plays in the most gimmicky offense in division 1A

he's going to blow up the combine because he's a monster but man alive is he a project.

I wouldn't mind getting this guy. We just need a player that defenses can truly respect besides Smith. It seems like Matt Moore can make Jarrett work. Maybe get this guy and a FA like Breaston and I think we're set. But this does seem like a high risk high reward player. Tate might be a more proven commodity.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
