Holmgren is intent on letting Eric Mangini go as coach. Also, Randy Mueller is a top candidate to be the Browns' GM. Holmgren was scheduled to meet with Mangini on Monday, then could meet the media as soon as Tuesday, perhaps announcing some changes then.

If John Fox is able to extricate himself from the remaining year of his contract with the Carolina Panthers, he would be a very strong candidate to end up with the Browns in some capacity

Hmmmm.............Fox coaching for Holmgren.................also isn't that where Davidson is from?

So many rumors.............damn...just something happen already.

[Panthers] Agent To Try And Free Up John Fox For Cleveland Job?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bob LaMonte, the agent for many NFL head coaches, will be busy this week trying to reach an agreement on an extension for Panthers head coach John Fox -- or trying to free him from his one remaining year in Carolina. If Fox becomes available, he would surely be a candidate in Cleveland once Mike Holmgren decides to fire current coach Eric Mangini. Speaking of LaMonte, word around the league is that when he was doing Holmgren's deal in Cleveland, the only thing he didn't get from owner Randy Lerner was a percent of interest in his English soccer team

Who knows, these reports were before Fox saying last night he plans to be hear next year but what's he going to say? I imagine he has to be politically correct and stay on Panthers good side in case he can't get out.

I am not so much of a Cowher nut hugger, don't think he brings much change in philosophy, but I do think Fox's time is over and a change would be good.

Even the article on the homepaeg about Meeks or Davidson makes some sense.

Makes you wonder how much Fox holds his coordinators back?

Why would anyone want to leave a job with an 8-8 team for the Browns?

True. But Fox came to us after a 1-15 season and turned us around.

And honestly, if Carolina doesn't want him, he should jump ship to the Browns while he has a chance. And the Browns actually showed signs of life the last few games.

Browns = coach graveyard.

Money.

Fox is in a strong position, but there is one weakness.

2011

If the CBA doesn't get finished, he could be on the outs with no contract, in a year where no one gets hired.

Sure he makes 5.6 million to stay, but with another gig he could probably get 7-8 a year right now, and get paid if there is no football to be had.

Yeah, because the Panthers were so damn awesome when Fox got here

Well yeah, but Fox is now an established HC on a decent team - why would he walk away from that to go coach the Browns???

For that matter, why would any established HC voluntarily leave a decent team for the "honor" of coaching the Browns?

I don't think it's about the money, especially for a guy like Fox. He's made plenty of money at this point - he wants to establish his legacy as a winning HC and it's hard to picture him doing that with the Browns. You make a valid point with the job security aspect, but I still don't think that would be enough motivation for him to go there. Fox is well regarded around the NFL and if he was out of a job after 2010 he would be snatched up by someone very quickly.

When he took the job with our 1-15 team, it was a promotion - so it made sense - but he's an established HC with a winning record now - why would he sign up for a team like the Browns who are in total disarray?

    • He’s been every bit as much of the problem as anyone else. You cant remove him from that fact, he is just as much part of the team and in THE most important position on the field. But this is the first season he’s seen any kind of continuity in his team and coaches. And he’s shown flashes here and there. But we do need more out of him going forward a lot more if we are going to be successful
    • Bryce isn’t great and super mid. But I think can be a game manager. What do we think is out there? Daniel Jones isn’t going anywher. Mac Jones? Zach Wilson? Pickett. I’m just not sure what’s out there that is much better without having to give up a ton of capital. Rather take one more step closer to contention with our early rounders next year with FS and LB help. Make this  place where dang they got a defense and a WR1 and solid RB room. I can win with that and want to be here
    • AR15 is if Justin Fields was fragile and his teammates hated him. No thanks. Ya'll think you hate watching Bryce Young? Wait until your QB can't even complete a 7 yard pass over the middle, which Fields and Richardson can't do. If the draft class was better, I could absolutely see the Titans moving on from Ward already if they got the #1 pick. But so far the college QB's haven't impressed enough. They'll have flashes, but then follow it up with a very meh game. Kyler is already done in Arizona, but he has a ridiculous contract and he's basically Bryce that likes to scramble, so no thanks. If Lawrence can't produce with that team in Jacksonville, what do you think he'll do here? He's tall Bryce who can throw deep but can't make the 4th down throws and crumbles in the red zone. No thanks. I do think Canales wants to move on from Bryce, his body language says so even in wins. He treated Bryce pretty odd this week and Bryce looked checked out in the Packers game. But unless they make another risky trade, its going to be slim pickings. Basically our hopes lie in hitting early in the draft with a Mateer, Nussmeier, Beck type or finding a random backup free agent that has another gear to hit.  I think even with the draft being wishy washy, 4-5 QB's will be taken in the top 7. A lot of teams are just that desperate.
