Beason sets record for tackles

Panthers linebacker Jon Beason set a new team single-season record for tackles this season with 169.

That topped the 160 he had as a rookie in 2007. Along with his 159 stops in 2008, Beason now ranks third in team history with 478 tackles. He rails only Mike Minter with 953 and Mike Rucker with 553. Dan Morgan had 452.

Badass or not he can not take on guards to allow another LB to make a stop, which is what a 3-4 ILB has to do.

Go to a 3-4 you lose Beason.

Look to Vilima when the Jets went to a 3-4

Actually let me retract that.

Beason is 6'0 237

Willis is 6'1 240

Perhaps he could do it after all.

The stat that jumped out at me was

now has more career tackles than Dan Morgan

Dan Morgan only played in I think 49 games across seven seasons. And has:

386 Tackles 5 Interceptions 12 Passes Defensed 7 Sacks and 3 Forced Fumbles

Beason who has played in and started every game in his three year career which is 48 games. So in one fewer game played than Dan Morgan Beason has:

420 Tackles 7 Interceptions 21 Passes Defensed 3 Sacks and 1 Forced Fumble.

Morgan was good but I contend that Beason is far better than Morgan at this point. Both statistically and by being able to stay healthy* through three entire years thus far.

edit: He was actually playing pretty hurt according to his blog, but he played and was effective so I will consider that healthy.

NFL.com lists him at 142.

112 and 30 Assists. 3 Picks, 3 Sacks, and a Forced Fumble.

Number two in the league overall in tackles behind Willis.

How did this guy not go to the Probowl?!

2 words...... Small Market or Losing Team.

    • Yes. It's fluff time anyways but it's getting a bit ridiculous. I don't believe this mix has ever worked for the Panthers before. Break .500 and then start the hype.
    • While I have a chance to be overly excited I'll take that opportunity. The team will determine what happens with that. It's been a while since we've had much to be excited about, I'd say let's just embrace it and see how it unfolds.
    • Knowns: top 10 o line 2 proven, quality RBs 2 proven, WRs who get open and catch everything. 2 others who show a lot of ‘potential’ A QB who improved greatly in the last few games of the season, topped off by putting up a 40 burger win in OT in this franchise’s kryptonite house. What will transpire this season is yet to be seen.  defense has far less proven. 2  very good CBs, a stud DT (coming off a major injury) and the rest is, again, ‘potential.’ A DC that is essentially starting the season on the hot seat.  This is not 2003, but it could be good. 2003 was the most stacked roster from top to bottom that this team has ever had. This squad finished on a big upswing, yes, but we’ll see.  I think it all comes down to how spiked your hopium is. The running game is where it is for the team. This is not a defense that will win 3 points games. Just not. To win, this team will have to dominate TOP and come up with 2+ more 3rd down stops each game. Again, do-able and should be good for at least a 7 point differential in our favor, ‘hopefully.’  I will say that it is nice seeing talent that actually belongs in the NFL on our roster.
