Latest Peppers speculation...

If he leaves it will free up a good amount of money to sign solid vets in other positions of need and make for an exciting offseason...

just sayin

That doesn't matter since there won't be a cap unless Richardson has a self imposed spending limit in lieu of the cap.

Thats what I am saying. Even though there is no official cap, Richardson likely has a self imposed cap on his wallet.

I am sure he has to. All buisnesses have caps on labor costs. Still he might feel that Pepppers fill seats and sells merchandise so he might be worth a premium.

This has been my thinking all along. I am not so sure of all the compensation stuff either. Someone will have to be willing to pay his huge salary to get him from us then give us picks on top of that. He is a great player but not the Peppers of old. I think most other teams see that even if ours don't

Trgo... Jake... Jenkins...

One of these things is not like the other... yet...

;)

Pep will likely be locked up long term before too long... and while it will be for a lot of money, that isn't the key motivator...

I still argue against the "letting go of Pep will free up money for other vets" sentiment because it'd take 4 new players at least to do what Pep does... and you'd have to have them all on the field at once...

I agree with you. I think it will be around 12mil a year.

Lets say JR spends big and get all the players he wants. If we have a cap in 2011 what happens then? I can't see the spending spree working but for one year.

i think he's looking for the highest paid player deal, kind of like Big Ben's contract extension, 7yrs, over 100$mill. which is around 14.5mill a year. that's probably the deal he's looking for. and in my opinion, he deserves it. and screw four players on the field at once, try 8... because besides Pepp, Beaston and Gamble were the only other two outstanding players on our defense this year after Davis and Kemo went down. Pepp handled the rest.

I can see that being a highly reasonable amount. 14 would be the max that they would ever consider for a contract IMO.

i'm tellin' you, he's lookin' for a Big Ben contract extension, 8yrs. $102mill. to be exact. i had that info incorrect previously. which is about 12.5 a year. which makes a lot of sense to me. and if that was the offer they made to him last season, he should take it this season, knowing that Moore will be his new QB next season.

Let him test the market and see that he's not worth quite what he thinks he is and then he can come back here and sign a deal, most likely very similar to what he was offered a couple seasons ago.

If he walks oh well

If he tests the market, he will not be back as a Panther. He's thought of too highly around the league NOT to get offered a monster contract.

I highly doubt Ben is guaranteed 12.5 a year...I'm sure there are millions of dollars locked up in incentives, roster bonuses, and other performance-based bonuses. I'd imagine he has somewhere between 70-75 million guaranteed.
