Typically, I think Most Valuable Player = Least Replaceable Player. Who in that list would it kill us the most to lose? Who was replaceable? Hard to say with Moore, in my opinion. Maybe another backup does just as well, because they're not Jake. Maybe not.

DWill and JStew? Excellent players, but they both rushed for 1100 yards, so I feel like if we lost one the other would still have had a great year.

The offensive line? Weird choice. It's not one person. If we mean the starting offensive line from opening day, keep in mind that many of them were replaced while the O-line remained effective. The O-line was well coached and effective, but it seems to me that you could say that each part was replaceable with a NFL-caliber (even backup) lineman.

Moose? laughable

Smith? He's my choice. I think without him we struggle even more in the passing game and without the home run threat that he brings, teams might become more effective against our running game.

For me MVP is the player or unit which was most responsible for the success of the offense. You could argue that like the offensive line, you could group the running backs as a unit as well and make a compelling case that the running backs as a whole were clearly our offensive MVPs. It is hard to ever go wrong by saying Smith is your MVP and most yeaars he is at top of his game. But given the quarterback situation and even his injury, it wasn't an MVP year for him or the wide receivers in general. If anything the tight ends emerged this year as viable obtions for the first time in forever.

Still the glue that kept everything from coming completely unraveled was the line. The line underwent major changes with only Kalil starting every game at the same position. The line lost both starting tackles and had to replace them with guys who were very inexperienced who actually helped us in the run and passing games.

I just can't single out one person who was most responsible for our offense success but if the line had remained as is started out the year, it would have been a terrible year. Their ability to hold things together allowed our rushing game to continue no matter who was back there, and kept the pressure off Moore long enough for him to find his receivers.

Say what you want, but I believe so many people are giving Moore the vote because Jake sucked last season. Moore only really had one outstanding game, but people are trying to make him out to be Tom Brady because he came in and didn't turn the ball over. He had many overthrown balls, and some of his other passes could have easily been intercepted. I'll give him a B for trying to spread the ball around a bit more.

But let's get real. The way Delhomme played, anybody who came in after him would probably get the nod for that purpose alone.

my vote is for stew. cause when DW couldn't get it done, stew would come in and beat up the defense a little so DW could break those long runs. and he just did an outstanding job at the end of the season. i can't give it to the o-line because they couldn't get the run going until 4 or 5 games into the season. i can't give it to smith because he didn't produce what he normally does, even with jake as the QB. had he gone over 1,000yds, w/ 10 TD's, then yeah. if we would've had a different QB then other receivers would've made just as many plays as him. i can't give it to Moore because everyone is right, anyone coming in after delhomme is gonna produce more. yet if he is the starter next season, then i might have to give it to him instead.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
