Peter King - deal Williams or Stewart for 1st round pick

people seem to be forgetting that the average salary for a running back in the league is only around 3 million. The average of the top 5 in 2009 was 7 million. That was boosted by Bush's 12 million, otherwise it was closer to 6 million. And it drops off alot after the top 10. Top running backs aren't paid anything like QB, DEs, or left offensive tackles. We can pay both of them with little problem.

yes, but was does the average salary have to do with what Stewart/Williams will be looking at when there rookie deals are up? They appear to both be on pace to be looking at top dollar money for the position......and in a few years that will be a lot more than studs have been getting. I don't see any willing to pay the 2nd RB that kind of money if they just put it into one. That is still a lot of money to pump into the RB position where some pretty average joes can do a sufficient job in a good offense.

As long as this remains the case, I see no reason to try to move either one. We are a rushing powerhouse, and this is where we are built. For people to question the team's large financial commitment to this area is being silly.

The only scenario I can see where we cannot afford to keep them both is if it turns into a Jamal Lewis/Priest Holmes situation where both backs are not only of starting caliber, but are two of the top 5 or so backs in the league.

Even then, with those salary numbers you mentioned... it's still worth it, as long as they are content. And seeing how Williams and Stewart have really become good friends... I don't see why we can't keep both of them through their 20's.

Remind me why would we trade away either? If a first pick was aquired, Hurney would not use it on offense. QB's and WR's come a dime a dozen, according to his draft history. I really don't see any significant trade happening, however I didn't see the Everette Brown trade either. I pray that "Big Cat" pulls back the rein's on the "Deal or No Deal" partners in crime and we start focusing on KEEPING and adding playmakers.

If the CBA doesn't get done. We have D'Will through the 2011 season and J. Stew through 2013.

It seems some want to say his AGE is a factor. He barely played in his 1st 2 years. He and J Stew have shared the spotlight since he started. So he is still hasn't had to carry a full load.

I wouldn't rush into trading him or J Stew. Man I am glad you fantasy GMs aren't running this team. Everytime someone mention trade you are ready to pull the trigger.

How easily we forget when we had little or no back ups at RB. We are a run first team why would you trade your meat and potatoes for what? A possibility. Pick 22 WTF

NOT NO BUT HELL NO.

Go Panthers

What we have with these to is a luxury!!! not a necessity! people forget that look at the teams in the playoffs year after year they dont have to 1st round draft choices in the backfield. it is NOT a requirement. we have that as a luxury. if we look to improve our o-line we wont need first round rbs to make it.

give me suh or mccoy (the DT) for either or no deal. suh is the 1 i think comes in and can flat dominate along side pep and transform a defense from real good to scary in all phases. also getting a guy like suh may help pep stick around, bring in a stud inside to take double teams and it may make him want to stay a bit more.

If you had 2 really hot girls, that were willing to share the..."carries", would you ruin it, by making it a one "back" situation? Even "Foxey" agrees with the "Two Birds in a Bush" analogy and I can say, I completely concur! Double the Trouble, just stay out of others bushes?

    • After Bountygate and the information that came out on the Saints owners shielding pedophile priests in New Orleans it will forever be the Saints numero uno for me. FUG THE SAINTS! I hope this is just the beginning of a long term period of suffering for that shitty organization run by even shittier human beings. #2.Pats/Belicheat #3. Falcons (Mike Vick years then Matt Ryan/Julio running it up) Ryan pooping his pants and 28-3 def makes my bad days always better just thinking of those. #4 Pretty much any franchise fan base thats obnoxious Steelers, Eagles, Bills, Jets, Giants, Cowboys, etc.
    • Thank God DM used that #8 pick on a bona fide WR1 and not some bum pass rushing prospect like Stewart or someone else. I believe Tet is legit WR1 material and going forward will be our long term answer at that position since we desperately were in need of one once they traded away DJ Moore.  Tet could possibly end up even being better long term than someone who I respect a ton as a WR in Moore. Evans has been a pleasant surprise and great TE/FB depth piece going forward who could make the most of his opportunities.  Any good offense worth a damn in the NFL has 3 TEs that can do multiple things and being scared by Ian Thomas play for years should makes us all appreciate what Evans is quietly doing as a ROOKIE at one of the hardest positions to learn at the pro level.  Keep cooking DM. This season is not over obviously but seeing some growth out of young talent finally is a breathe of fresh fuggin air for once.
    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
