WR really what the offense needs?

i think a lot of panther fans want a complement to steve smith. and many have thrown out alot of names out there.

i think what we need is SPEED and/or SIZE - someone that can create matchup problems one on one. jarrett has height, but maybe not the bulk and strength to cause serious match up problems for defenses.

whether its TE or WR we need someone that poses a problem for the defense to match up with one on one. maybe barnidge is the pass catching/run blocking TE we need to find openings in the passing game. maybe jarrett can be big enough to worry the secondary.

i know that whatever player we draft will have to be a "football player" but i think we could really benefit from drafting a weapon on offense with a certain specialized skill set to balance our attack.

my vote is for speed... stretch the feild take pressure off smitty and open the run game/underneath routes.

sad but true......when Moose left they never got one. Now it is time to focus on finding a new #1 as it will probably take 3 years to develop them into a Smitty type guy AND a compliement for Smitty.

You know, sometimes I think that we are fooling ourselves with this need for a WR thing.

We have Smitty, Moose, Jarrett, Moore, Rosario, King, Barnidge, and even Williams. Have any of you ever considered the fact that Jake was the main problem, or more importantly that Fox and/or the OC are the REAL problem?

I have said it before: Putting another good WR in the hands of the present coaching staff, would be akin to throwing Buffie the Body and J-Lo on an island with Adam Lambert. He just wouldn't know what to do with them.

i think its pretty apparent we dont have the number of playmakers on offense that other teams have. deangelo, smith, stewart. thats it.

and we can only have two of them on the feild at once.

no, we definitely need a slot receiver. i still have faith in jarrett. he just hasn't had a quarterback under center that trusts him enough. i think matt moore is that guy. and i'm still sticking with jordan shipley as our number one draft pick. he's our missing ricky proehl kind of guy. if we can't get shipley, then someone in the same range of talent, size and everything.

it is true that jake has been the problem, and still is the problem. but kenneth moore didn't impress me when he got playing time there at the end of the season when matt moore was the QB. i think any player that's physical or fast would suit our offense in the slot.

I don't think it's apparent at all, because on paper Moose is not chopped liver, and all of our TEs have shown that they can catch the ball. Moreover, I still continue to believe that Jarrett and K. Moore have plenty of upside. Furthermore, Williams came out of college as a viable receiving threat as well. The problem is that we haven't had anything close to dynamic play calling, have had a QB with the ability and/or desire to pass to the other receivers, and coaches and a QB who apparently have the confidence

that others have in their own guys.

You could put Jerry Rice in this offense and Fox will find a way to make him average. This is a caveman offense predicated on running the ball all the time, having a "game manager" at quarterback, and not alot of creativity or deception. The WRs we have are good enough as is. Our problems lie at the QB position and playcalling.
