Peppers contract Situation Discussion Thread (Dpanthers started it (^-^))

its easy for the panthers- like i said; they have the ball in their court now!

With the top 8 teams not able to sign Pep anyways, we have more trading power because of it.

(franchis pep and he will sign the tender EARLY because he knows the only chance of him getting with one of those big teams is if we trade him because they wouldnt be able to sign him anyways)

Its an uncapped year so who cares about the $$$ if JR is willing to pay it!

Sign him to a 1 year tender, trade him if we can, and if not we drop the huge contract after next season in a year that has a chance to be a lock out anyways!!!

win- win 4 us!

If they don't even ask what Peppers wants before letting him walk, I will completely lose any respect I have for the FO, JR included.

I don't care if he's trying to set an example or not, Pep did everything he was asked and treated the organization with class, respect, and a sense of duty when it was decided that he would come back.

He said he would be interested in coming back. The FO bent over backwards to get him to come back. Now, a year later, he's even more willing to sign than before and hopeful about the team future and you turn your nose up at him? It just doesn't make any sense, the guy is in the prime of his career and you don't even call to see what the asking price is?

He could've been willing to give a hometown discount... He won't now. Horrible.

Charles Johnson has earned the opportunity to be the tentative starter if Peppers is gone.

Yep. He has really gotten better & if he play more than he ever did with us next season, he could be even better.

really??? i can give charles johnson, but everette brown hasnt proved he is a every down de. is the best we can do tyler and hilee?

would be interestes in seeing how they perform w/o pep for a while.

Brown haven't proved he is a every down DE? I disagree with that. He just hasn't gotten much playtime yet compare to other who been around longer than him. When he start bulking up some more & play more like a starter, I think he will be great. Brown will get there with experience soon.

watch. jerry jones will ****** him up. and ill hate the cowboys even more than i already do

He can't (see the "Rule of Eight").

Good point, so in-effect they traded Seymour for Peppers... not a bad trade. They're also looking to replace Adailus Thomas, seems like a perfect situation for both teams.

This time, let's hope Peppers and his agent understand that he needs to sign the tender early if he really wants to be traded. He's got nothing to lose by signing the tender. If the Panthers tried to pull a 180 on him and trade him to the Chiefs, he could simply refuse to do a long term deal with the Chiefs and he would sabotage the trade and go back to making 20 mill for one season with the prospect of being a FA the next.

The highlighted phrase is one that, sadly, does not inspire confidence :(

Yep, I agree with all of this. @ the bolded; yea I doubt he gives us any kind of discount now. They could've at least talked to him.

I just hope Samuel Jackson is right about Pep being a career Panther.

If we tag him and then trade him, what would we be required to pay / or what would we lose? Because from our FO's current strategy, it seems they are either bluffing by saying they won't sign him to increase demand (or) it would be too costly to tag him then trade him.

I'm sorry, but I just don't have a lot of confidence in Mortenson anymore...especially when he's talking about Jerry Richardson. I seriously doubt that Richardson actually talked to him, so there is probably a strong chance that this nugget also came from Cary.

ESPN cares more about sensationalist headlines than they care about truth anyway, so I'm weary of almost everything they report anymore.

    • Hard to interpret some of Brugler's opinions. Capable of running a robust route tree sounds like a lazy thing to say - I'm sure just about every slot TE is capable of running a full route tree... I want to know if he is currently able to (which from tape leads me to a no). Granted, it's pretty common for most receivers/TE not having a full route tree developed before they get drafted. Agility/acceleration after the catch hasn't shown up on his tape (at least his Oregon tape) for those dig/out breaking routes while it has for the seam and slant routes. Agree he has a good physical build and he is very good running seam routes. His build definitely helps him to shield defenders and create a large target point for the QB. Drops were a concern, but it could be focus drops just like T-Mac was/is prone to. Run blocking is an accurate statement, but again, we have only seen him run block in the slot/backfield - inline blocking is a whole different animal. With his athleticism, he definitely has a high ceiling. I just think he also has a low floor and don't like taking that big of a risk on a mid 1st rounder. I think this is a deep TE draft and would much rather target one in the 3rd or later. He's very boom or bust to me - bust in terms of being worth a 1st round pick, not an out of the NFL in a few years type bust. I feel like he gives me Evan Engram vibes. Not saying that Evan Engram was/is a bad NFL player, just that most people would agree he shouldn't have been drafted in the 1st.
    • I mean I would love 6-1. It’s funny the hurricanes usually dominate the first game and win by three or four goals. But keep the second game close. It would be nice if it’s the reverse of that tonight.
    • Brugler has him as TE1 and going to the Ravens in the first.  Apparently Sadiq's football IQ is pretty high (interviewed very well).  Also he was an WR and CB in high school.  This is why I always thought his route running was solid.  I'm sure it needs some polishing but for a TE it's pretty good. nfl.com Built like a bodyguard with a compact, well-defined frame. Capable of running a robust route tree. Gets in and out of breaks with good snap and separation. Vandalizes defensive seams with impunity against man coverage. Survives collisions with catches thanks to his hand strength. Shows off agility and acceleration after the catch. Fits up run blocks with proper positioning and base width. Grips and presses forward with moving feet to stay connected. -Again I don't know if we should take him but if he goes to the right team he could become a scary weapon at the next level.  I just like him as a prospect.
