Brees is the best QB in the NFL

Okaaye, umm, he's too short, too nice, has a (bottle) rocket arm, has a WMD growing on the side of his face. It's really nice when someone overcomes the (ahem) shortcomings that life deals them. Bless his heart.

In reality he is the best QB in the NFL today, right up until Sep. 9, 2010. See ya then. Just for perspective, from January to September of 2001 it was Trent Dilfer. :D

In all seriousness, Brees should be included in the discussion of who is the best right now. I won't argue against him. But you can't come in here, throw down that gauntlet and not expect a raspberry in response.

Bree's is undeniably an elite QB, with an incredibly accurate throw and all the intangibles that make QBs great, I am hesitant to agree because of Sean Payton.

Sean Payton has always been an incredible offensive playcaller and he designs plays and drives with few peers. Considering that you have to wonder if Brees could operate like Manning does, who effectively just has a consultant as an OC. Manning often calls the plays himself.

Brees is incredible, but I think he has the perfect HC who plays to everyone of his strengths. Due to that, it would be hard to put Manning below Brees, simply because of the extra things Manning does over Drew and still performs equally or better in most situations.

In addition Manning has played this way his entire career at this level, Brees has not, which does suggest that and Sean Payton have got the best out of each other.

Just because the Saints won the Super Bowl? That makes them the better team but says nothing about individual players. Brees is a very good QB and among the elite today but not the best. That doesn't mean he can't become the best and very well could but he just isn't there yet.

In all honesty, it's hard to say this when Brady has 3 rings and Big Ben has 2. And while I really don't like Ben or the Steelers, Ben would have never got thrown around like Brees did by Freeny on that one play in the SB.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
