Yea yea yea it's the off season sooo time for another random thread ... I want to know who you people think the best player to ever put on a panthers uniform is ... This isn't a top 5 list so I just want one name lol( I remember an earlier post where you named your 5 favorite player and people including me put like 10 on the list)... sooo think of it like this... Imagine we have no player statues out infront of the stadium and it's your choice on who it gets to be ,who do you pick ...

For me it's a no brainer... Steve Smith

I really don't understand all the Steve Smith votes after him punching 2 teammates and being an ass to fans. To me there really is no other option than Mills. Who not only was one of our best LBers ever but also a really good coach and team motivator. No one else gave to this organization as much as he did.

The best player to ever wear our uniform? Reggie White He wasn't at his best the one year he played for us but over his career he was the best.

I was going to say the same.

The statue thing complicates the question -- Steve Smith may be the best Panthers player, but he's not deserving of a statue in the way that Sam Mills was.

But if you're going on just talent, athleticism and a person's body of work, it's very close between Smith and Peppers.

How in the hell does Sam Mills deserve a statue over Steve Smith? People pull for the panthers because of Steve Smith. No one ever did for Sam Mills. Thousands each weekend come to see STEVE SMITH make sensational plays and fire everyone up. Cant say that about Sam Mills. Steve Smith IS the Carolina Panthers.

He deserves a statue far more than Sam Mills EVER HAS and I hope he retires a panther so he WILL get a statue.

End of Line.

Steve Smith is a far superior athlete than Sam Mills. So why does Sam Mills currently have a statue outside of the stadium? Surely you know what he's done for the team, and the leader he was in the lockerroom.

I'm not saying statues should only be relegated to high-character players over the better athletes, but it's obvious Richardson takes pride in such players.

You seem pretty worked up about all this. I'm a huge fan of Steve Smith as a player, and if we were going on talent alone then, yeah, he'd have a statue. I'm just pointing out that I don't think that's the only thing that goes into a player getting a statue.

Sorry I hurt your feelings.

End of line (or do we mean bottom line here?).

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
