Is it a fact that the more likely you are to live in an area where swimsuits are going to be worn regularly because of a warm climate and possibly proximity to a beach, that in general the women are going to keep themselves looking better?

In general terms, I would agree.

I also believe it has to do with gender expectations and relative machismo of the male population of a region or peoplegroup.

Also, where and how the ladies are expected to compete (in what arena).

Aside from California and Florida, this seems to dispute that. Then again this is the US, the rest of the world is probably different

Add to that the fact that young people flock to warm places... that's why Wilmington is so awesome... beach+warm weather+UNCW = many hotties around.

Was about to say this... hawt people move away to go live at the beach. Had it happen dozens of times.
