Is a dominant Dline already on the roster?

I think Leonard has the potential to be a really good player if not the anchor to our line next season. He's like a better version of Kemo that can actually generate some pressure. Tyler has potential as well. I'm not worried about Brown, I think he'll pan out, it's a just a matter of when. Charles Johnson is the x factor to me, he has serious serious potential and is the strongest dude on the team he has to step it up and be every down player and a 10 sack guy.

From what very little we got to see of him, to me he impressed. He seemed to constantly be getting into the backfield. I see Kemo not making the final roster as I agree Leonard is far better.

BTW does anyone know, because of the injury, what we ended up giving for him? And has anyone heard about how hes injury is progressing.

Who do you think gets the boot if we draft another player at DT? There are a couple of nice options to potentially choose from including Cam Thomas from UNC, Geno Atkins from Georgia, and Earl Mitchell from Arizona. Each of these guys could be had in 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds respectively...but that leaves us with another body at the position.

I would much rather use that first pick on a WR, Brandon Lafell or Golden Tate would be awesome. But like I said before if someone talented fell that far I wouldn't be against taking them.

I think who gets the boot depends on what type of DT we draft.NT or UT.But I see Kemo and Hayden gone.

Brown / Leonard / Irvin / C. Johnson or Brayton

Based on poteintel, to me that lineup reminds me a lot of the old line of

Peppers / Buckner / Jenkins / Rucker

Let's not forget that the d-line in 2002, made up of the same players, looked no where as dominating as they did in 2003. Give them a season to gell and they could surprise a lot of people.

in 02 both starting DEs got at least 10 sacks and both DT at least 5. They were pretty nasty in 02. This years projected squad won't sniff that production. They have potential to be the worst unit in franchise history. The starting front 4 had more sacks in 02 than in 03.

We've already seen the best Lewis has to offer and it is no where close to what Jenkins offered. I'm not saying Irvin is going to be the next Jenkins but I think he has the poteniel to be similar style DT like Jenkins was.

I think we have seen the best of Lewis too.And he is solid. But I just dont think Fox will cut Kemo and Lewis. I hope someone will suprise and take over at TC.

I didn't realize they had more sacks in 02 than in 03. That's surprising. But I stand by my statement that they weren't as dominating in 02 as they were in 03, at least based on my memory of their play not just their stats. The Superbowl may be clouding my judgment but it just seemed they were more of a dominante group in 03.

As for this year's projected lineup, you may very well be correct. But let's not forget that Jenkins and Rucker were both 2nd round surprises and Buckner was a travelman who was starting to get long in the tooth. That group, IMO, exceeded expectations and were able to rise to that dominating level of play.

You can't look at this current group and expect the same production that the old line had, thats understood. But I don't think you can just write them off either. The biggest difference, and a valid point if and when made, is that this line was assembled by Fox and Hurney while the old line was assembled by Seifert and his staff. The question now is has Hurney put together a defensive line as good as he did the offensive line?

I do think our D-line players are very underrated, but in no way do we have a dominant line, even with Peppers. I'd say we currently have an above average line, and it's getting better, but no D-Line in Meeks system is going to look like the '03 year.

LOL, misunderstanding.

I wasn't predicting the starting lineup. Only looking at the roster and seeing who could potenielly become an equally talented counterpart to the 03 defensive line. I don't think Irvin will be ready to start this season but if he should then that will say a lot about his talent level. Same thing if Brown and/or Johson gets the start over Brayton. If the younger guys get the start over the vets then we may have something.

well, the 03 offense was better.....and think that factors in to how a D looks at times. I mean, the 02 D is the reason most like to talk so highly of Del Rio. I think Del Rio is overhyped around here and just think he was playing w/ a fantastic hand.......the group proved they were the best in the game of the course of a few seasons imo.

I think the question is already answered, the current projected DL is nowhere close to the current OL. The DL Hurney/Fox have built is the one left standing after two of the better defensive linemen in the league made it known they wanted no part of what is going on.
