First of all, for the guy who claims that I don't know anything about the transition tag and says transition = franchise....Transition is the average of the top 10 salaries in NFL and the franchise is the average of 5 top salaries....

So with this calculation most probably the price would reduce around 16 mil$ (exactly the sum payed last year in a capped year)....and a money that would pay for one year so if there is capped year next year and you like to say good bye to Peppers you can always say it...

...

You might want to check into the guaranteed salary increases for each tag, I mean before you post and look stupid.

Franchise tag - the player is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries of last season at his position or 120 percent of his previous year’s salary, whichever is greater

Transition tag - the player is offered a minimum of the average of the top 10 salaries of last season at his position or 120 percent of his previous year's salary, whichever is greater.

Since 120% of last year's salary is greater than both the average of the top 5 player salaries at his position and the average of the top 10 player salaries at his position, the only offer that can be made to Peppers is 120% of his last year salary for either tag.

In other words, as far as the FO in concerned in regard to Peppers

FRANCHISE TAG = TRANSITION TAG

Secondly the guy who claim that I am confusing the franchise tag with tenders.. Did you ever paid attention to, how Jarred Allen is traded to Vikings. He was first franchised and traded for one 1st and for one 3rd. So if you have any sort of NFL knowledge, you should actually know that another team can sign him for 2 1st during he is franschised...So if this trade is possible, the team that franchised Allen had accepted the reality that they would never get 2 1st and be happy with a 1st and 3rd rounder...

Same goes with Peppers, I never believed that we can get 2 1st for him but a 2nd rounder was realistic in my opinion....

And for the last, for all the guys that are not happy with my English. English is not my native language but I am trying to do my best. I would like to see you when you are writing something in German or French....

Tag and trades ONLY work if the player is willing to cooperate. In the recent phone interview Peppers did, he exclusively said he did not sign the tender because he thought the Panthers were going to trade him the moment he did.

So why on Earth would he do anything differently this time round? He wants exclusive control on where he ends up, that will not happen with a $21 million guaranteed contract and the Panthers determining trade value.

The other fact to consider is that teams which want him, will not trade for him for fear that he will not sign an extension and thus force them to play him under the tag AND lose him the following year.

Oh and others have pointed out, in Peps situation, franchise tag and transition tag amount to the same thing due to his high salary last year.

Game...set...match.

Nothing worse for the OP than being wrong....being called on it....just the make another wrong statement....and being owned on it again. He should stop while he can.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
