Did anybody hear the interview with Matt Moore on Mac Attack this morning?

Not a whole lot of substance, but here's a summary:

He wasn't surprised about his and team's play late in the season. Gave a lot of credit to the guys around him who "stepped up" their play. He says the momentum of the team's play has him excited for this year.

Asked about contract situation. He has had talks with the Panthers, it sounds like they are leaning towards tendering him this season. Says there have been brief talks about a long term deal. They will be meeting in a couple of days (he is in CA right now) and will discuss further. He thinks the tender is the direction they are going but will find out for sure then. He was then asked if based upon recent reports that he will be one of the top potentially available QBs if he or his agent thinks that other teams will offer us picks to sign him. He said anything is possible. However, he wanted to be clear that he wants to stay in Charlotte as he and wife love the area, and that his preference would be to stay as a Panther.

The question came up with a qualifier that it was known that he was a team guy, is he concerned at all with not being named the starter going in 2010. He said he was not at all, as even being named the starter doesn't mean you're not going to have competition. His primary concern is helping the team win, and he knows that Jake feels the same way. Asked if Jake was a big supporter of his when he was a starter - he said "Are you kidding?" Jake has been nothing but supportive, as were Josh and AJ, said it was a great situation for a young guy to be in with each of the veterans being standup guys.

He was asked about Smith's quote in that he wants a receiver faster than him out there. Matt laughed and said good luck with that, who is faster than Smitty. Said he would like that too, although he was quick to point out that Moose is still a good player. Said any negative perception that fans have about Smitty's personality are unfounded.

Mac was the one who came up with "Matty Nice". Moore just laughed, said he was honored that people were trying to come up with a nickname for him, and that he would co-sign the nickname.

This kid knows all the right things to say, that's step # 1 of becoming a franchise QB.

I'm excited about Moore, I think we could really be sitting on a gold mine with him... he might just turn out to be our Tom Brady after all (with Jake playing the part of Bledsoe).

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
