Panthers Cut Delhomme

So bittersweet. Sad to see him go, but I know it's best for the team. Good luck Jake, my man.

Word.

HELL YES!!! Now we can use the money from him and pep being cut to extend Davis, Dwill, and a few other contracts...this could be a sign that we arent going cheap in FA this year just a thought

Pardon me, but don't we still have to pay him $12 millions, even when releasing him??

I don't really know how to take it.

His contract was way too big, but I find it hard to celebrate his release. He's a genuinely good guy.

I agree. Some people just dislike how he play lately, that they're so hateful & immature. But whatever. He was the best QB we ever has for the Panthers & will always be remebered for the best season in history when we went to the SB. Thanks for everything, Jake!! :sifone:

And Richardson better not get Vick. Hearing Vick want to join us & releasing Jake, I have a bad feeling this is going to happend. But I sure as hell hope not. Also, gloating at someone being cut is very immature & not the way how our fanbase should be. We should be classy & respectful. At least some are being respectful here. ;)

It's funny... I thought I would be so happy once Delhomme was gone, but I'm actually having mixed emotions about it.

Once my initial F YEAH! reaction subsided, I started and am feeling the same way.

Jake Delhomme was one of the most unique players we've had on this team and I will miss the good times he had from '03-'05. He's a legitimately great, great, great guy. He's done a lot for the Charlotte community, a lot more than people realize. Jake Delhomme the man? A class act even for this team that has historically had plenty of them.

I truly do wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do next, whether it be football or something else.

Makes no sense to cut him with all that money he could be a emergency backup/mentor.

It makes all the sense in the world. We just cut him in a year where it won't effect our ability to sign any new free agents. Whereas, if we kept him and there was a salary cap put into place during the year that we would have cut him, he would have consumed our cap. It was a great move by the FO.

It is sad, as I said before, he's the best QB we ever had and took us further than any other QB.

I believe he was a Top 10 QB at one time, so it's sad to see him go.

Like I said last year, I wish they would've just made the change last offseason so he could go out with some dignity, hold the clipboard for a year or so and let us remember him for the QB he was.

We would've forgotten the Cards debacle after some time, but to put him back out there repeatedly to do the same thing, it was horrible how he was treated this year.

Sucks, but he knows it's a business and he'll do fine in whatever he pursues.

In all seriousness, Thanks Jake.

Agreed. I hate to see him go out like this. I'm also wondering who the back up QB is gonna be.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
