Agent: Panther's Having a Firesale, Have Thrown Away 2010 Season

Maybe, like Peppers, he doesn't want to be here either. He's just being more professional about it and not displaying it openly.

And you think he's also willing to sabotage his chances of getting a job elsewhere by coaching a losing season?

I too will question us if we ship Williams off somewhere

Same here... He's an excellent RB that's for sure, but Stewart is a better all-around RB IMO. He is the future for the Panthers, that's for sure, the question is when?

Do we trade D. Willie now while he's red hot, coming off a pro bowl year? or later on, when he won't be worth as much? It's a really tough question, and a problem the Panthers will address sooner or later.

We aren't going to be able to keep both Smash and Dash once their contracts run up. :(

Two things:

1. If he doesn't want to be here, he might give it a half-hearted effort. So we go 7-9, and JR cuts him loose.

He's still got a winning record, two NFC Championship appearances, and a Superbowl appearance in his combined seasons here. That's plenty good enough to get a decent job somewhere else. Keep in mind he took over a 1-15 club. He's not afraid of taking a crap team somewhere else.

2. Marty Hurney will take more heat for boneheaded personnel moves than Fox will (and rightfully so). So if we have a Fire Sale, and Fox doesn't have a winning season, his agent can blame it on Hurney (of course Foxy would never say so himself).

They got to make a decision on Dash about now, he's in his final season now.

They could sign Dash and keep dash and have them both till 2014....Then sign Smash and let dash go.....

Since Hurney will still be here even after Fox leaves, then it doesn't hurt Hurney either.

Hurney gets to keep his job as long as he wants, he's got it made.

Some of the most successful businesses have a policy that they fire 10% of the company each year in order to keep the best performing and trim away the excess fat of the underperformers. Every player that has been cut or not re-signed makes sense under this model.

Pep and Jake--nothing really to argue there.

Hoover is a workhorse but Sutton has shown flashes of greatness.

Moose has been amazing for us--but he is getting older and would likely want more than he's worth. Both Jarrett and Moore have shown that with time, they can be developped into #3's at worst. I hope we draft Smitty's future replacement, however. If JR was TRULY cleaning house, I could see him trading smitty for some of the things he said earlier in the year. In this FA market, he would likely command pretty good value. However, Smitty is not underperforming and therefore won't be traded.

Our D-line has a lot of talented young guys who are ready to step up to starting roles.

JR has never seemed to be about the money to me. Honestly, I don't think JR is playing puppetmaster.

I’ve been talking to a lot of agents over the past few days and it’s hard to find one who has a client the Panthers seem interested in signing

I think key here is "a lot of agents", the FO is cutting guys loose with apparently no plans to replace them. That is why this has the stench of a fire sale; plus we have few draft picks to fill in holes.

Err... unless he gets fired.

You didn't read gnatt's piece on Fox and his lame duck year. He said in that article that Hurney wouldn't leave fox out to hang since Hurney would have a job with the Panthers as long as he wanted one.

Apparently Hurney's got it made.
