Agent: Panther's Having a Firesale, Have Thrown Away 2010 Season

I am not buying the fire sale idea either, and whenever me and Mr Scot agree on anything, which is a rarity, you can pretty much take it to the bank.

Scot and Zod are agreeing......me and CWG are agreeing.

These are scary times...dogs are living with cats....pigs are flying....and the Panthers are getting better.

There's no denying its a fire sale.

But none of these moves have set the team back, and the Peppers situation was entirely removed from this round of cuts and totally unrelated. We tried to sign him to a fat contract as recently as this summer.

We're making the tough decisions that people have bitched about us not making the past 4 years.

Its a firesale. But we're not rebuilding, we're reloading.

Sutton looked damn good at the end of last season.

I'm sure glad many of you are sold on these young players with limited playing time that played well in their "stints" last season. I know I'm writing off the playoffs next season. This team needed a few tweeks to get us solidly playoff bound and instead got stripped down to the foundation. Nice. Granted this "youth movement" will help us out in the long run, but not until 2011. That's right, there may not even be a season in 2011.

The only cut I disagree with was Damiene Lewis. He must not have wanted to restructure his contract. The Jake cut hurt, and the Hoov cut hurts, but it was time for both of them to go. Retire. There's life after football, and nobody put their body on the line like Hoov.

We're disposing of solid veterans that haven't been so solid for some young guys that have been in the system a few years.

I dunno, I expect this team to be hungrier and have more energy when they hit the field this fall.

So releasing Jake, Diggs, Johnson, Lewis and Kemo and allowing Brayton and Muhammed to walk is a "fire sale"?

So far, the only impact player we've lost is Peppers. Jake was an impact player last year, but in the wrong way.

Like many teams, we're using this uncapped year to clear out these older, expensive guys out for younger promising talent.

Great teams aren't great b/c they have a Julius Peppers....they are great b/c they have the Brad Hoover, Diggs, etc. type players all over the roster. Carolina is taking a much bigger blow than fans are wanting to acknoledge. Peppers hurt.....but now they have clearly said forget it, we will start fresh and be the Rams of next year....well a clearly better and more competitive one but 2010 is no longer a year w/ playoffs in the FO's mind.

You didn't read gnatt's piece on Fox and his lame duck year. He said in that article that Hurney wouldn't leave fox out to hang since Hurney would have a job with the Panthers as long as he wanted one.

Apparently Hurney's got it made.

I don't care what Darrin says. If Hurney chops off the veterans of this team, and does nothing in Free Agency, then we have a non-winning year, he's going to come under the microscope.

As Aceman pointed out... JR is a businessman. If he'll part ways with Delhomme, anything can happen.

Let me get this straight. Letting go of aging vets, going with a youth movement, and continuing to build the team with young talent is throwing away a season?

Bullchit.

Sour grapes.

Do I feel we will contend for a Superbowl? I don't think you can find ANYONE who felt we could this coming season (although, ANYTHING is possible)...we're just moving on..aging teams have got to do that at some time or another.
