Don't know how much stock I'd put into it, but Richardson is one of the leaders the other owners respect. Not only are the owners not spending money (Dallas? Washington? Philly?), but they are crying poor under the current agreement. Something tells me many of these moves have as much to do with the CBA as it does with the Panthers plans going forward. Better to "sacrifice" one season and get the deal they want than gamble their finances in trying to win now.

In other words, I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers are being handcuffed by Richardson's concern for the league as a whole.

They don't want to, but will have to. If not this season, then next. They won't be able to afford them both.

Trade D-Will now and get a first rounder, or wait until next year when he leaves on his own and we get nothing.

Which is the better choice?

Same decision the Patriots made this year with Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork, they got a probable top 10 pick for Seymour and just locked up Wilfork for 5 years. I like the way the Pats do business, they win a lot of Lombardis.
