Is J-Rich setting Fox, err us, up?

Guys, you just have to know that the Big Cat has his paws all in the middle of this youth/cut-the-fat movement? No way Fox and Hurney are getting all "creative" by themselves. With all these major decisions, I am thinking that with the slightest bit of marginal success next year---which still has a good shot at happening, considering the schedule---Fox will get an extension. I think that even if we have another 8-8 season (possibly 7-9, 6-10), then Fox will not be going anywhere for years to come, because J-Rich is going to have to shoulder some a sizable part of that blame.

Do you really think that he's going to get rid of Fox (not saying that we should, depending), unless we completely bomb?

On a very simplistic level it's very obvious. Reduce as much going out as you can. Keep young, cheap and hopefully hungry guys. Let Fox coach his last year so you aren't paying him to play golf or surf.

Give the next crew alot of room with the next Cap. Help out your fellow owners by NOT jacking up the market for FA's.

Keep costs down for two years and have it in 2012. Yes. That's TWO years from now.

By JR getting rid of his sons it sent a message that the sentimentality of this team will not stand anymore. He is fixing what has gotten out of hand. I think the only thing that saves Fox' job is a NFC championship appearance or Superbowl appearance. Anything less and I really believe he will be gone.

I don't know what an owner would have to gain by setting his head coach up for failure. If he wanted him gone, he could make that happen right now.

This thread isn't about setting Fox up for failure. If you think about it, it's about setting him up for success---not only in J-Rich's mind, but the team's and fans' minds.

So, what you're saying is that you think he is "setting Fox up for failure", because I don't think that it's realistic to think we'll make it to the championship next season, much less the Super Bowl, with all of the changes that are taking place. Do you think that this is realistic? Come on. It's nice to dream, but I know that J-Rich is a practical guy, and with a new starter at QB, no veteran threat opposite Smith, and a totally new D-line, I am thinking that J-Rich is lowering the expectations for the short term (i.e., this coming season), but raising them for the foreseeable future.

Are you guys just missing the point? I am saying that Richardson is more than likely going to give Fox an extension, even if the season is sub par in the minds of the fans.

Maybe it's the phrase "setting Fox up" that is throwing us off -- did you mean it in a negative way (in the way the phrase is most often used)?

I believe the team is better now than a week ago so no, I don't think he is setting him up. JR wants to be like the Steelers and probably a little like the Patriots. And they get rid of players. This is something that had to be done, from a business point of view.

      They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.

      I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).

      It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
