Jarrett still sticking with Panthers

On his return, Godfrey played better than he had played previously. I'll acknowledge that.

But did he play better than Martin?

I think they played comparably. And to be honest, we can't really look at Godfrey's post-injury play as a reason for the move since it hadn't occurred yet, other than to assume that Fox believed he had it in him.

So basically, I think there were two reasons Godfrey was reinserted as the starter. 1) Fox watched film and knew what he was supposed to be doing, so thought he played better than a lot of fans did. I also assume he feels Godfrey has the fundamental talent to be a solid starting FS, despite some mistakes early in his career. 2) I truly think the team still views Martin as a cornerback. Like I said, he was only moved out of necessity, and then got hurt early in his first game at Safety in pre-season.

Yet when he came back Godfrey played MUCH better than he did before the injury (some time off to sit and watch for the first time in his career probably did him wonders...along with a young buck stepping up and threatening his job). Fox probably doesn't have quite the same disdain for Godfrey that many fans do (not necessarily talking about you Mr. Scot, just a general point)...perhaps it's the fact he actually watches film and knows what each players responsibility is.

I also think Fox still sees Martin as a CB on this team and didn't want to commit him to being our future starting FS. Remember, he was only moved to Safety after we had a rash of injuries in camp and Wesley failed to transition well. It was never about performance, just attrition and Martin's backgtround. And his injury in his first game at FS pretty much kept him from moving back to CB when everyone started getting healthy (although I think they also didn't want to jerk him around too much since he was a rookie)

With that said, I do agree that Fox does tend to be a bit too stubborn when it comes to replacing "his" guys. Although to be fair, in most cases there are legitimate reasons for him to not be 100% sold on the move. For example, Keeping Foster in over Williams. DeAngelo was still struggling with blitz pickups, and admittedly wasn't preparing properly. Also, as bad as Jake played this year, there were questions of how dedicated Moore was, and if he would have been any better...although I think he still should have at least given him a game to see, and give Jake time to try and get his head together.

Martin is actually older.

All the arguments against Jarrett usually are stats. The fact of the matter is when he is thrown to he looks damn good. And all those concerned with his run blocking its not an issue. That was the main thing I watch with him on the field and I think he is as good as Moose in this area.

I am tired of the "Jarrett sucks/ he is a bust" threads...

Why is it that he seems to play better with Moore under center then he does with Delhomme?

I wonder...

Jarrett won't be nothing more then a possession receiver, which, if that is what the Panthers want as a #2 then this is his time to shine. I think people will see vast improvements in him.

^ someone with my exact thoughts, I'm tired of hearing all these fake panther fans say Jarrett isn't good or he sucks, HE DOESNT SUCK, DELHOMME SUCKS as well as the coaching staff, just wait for next season I'm telling you

I think the biggest problem with using stats as a way to guage Jarrett is that usually, when he was in the game, it was as a blocker, and the times he did go out in a pattern, he was the 3rd or 4th option...and how often has Jake ever gone to his 3rd or 4th option, not very.

I've seen some things I really like about Jarrett, and feel that he will be much better than many are assuming. Yet, I also do not want to go into the season banking on it. We definitely still need someone to battle with him for the #2 spot...preferably someone with speed and quickness. I also would like someone to come in as the #3 or #4 receiver, depending on how Jarrett progresses (unless they feel somone already on the roster like Kenny Moore or Charly Martin can effectively step into that role).

One reason I used stats is because I was replying to somebody saying he "produced VERY WELL".

I hope maybe he flips a switch this season. With a QB that can actually get him the ball he can make some good catches. I don't fel confident in any of his skills except for his hands. He has excellent hands.

The only way we'll know if Jarrett has what it takes to start opposite of Smitty is to have him start all 16 games next year, and let him sink or swim. This is the final year of his contract, and you can bet your ass Fox plans to start Jarrett. So if you're holding out some delusional hope of us getting Brandon Marshall or someone else outside of the draft so that we can keep Jarrett buried in the corner of our roster like your retarded uncle at the family reunion, you might as well come to grips with reality. We've started 16 games with Keary Colbert even when he sucked ass, so you can bet your ass we're willing to give it a shot with Jarrett.

I would rather focus on a winning season than seeing if Jarrett can FINALLY break through after 4 years. It's not worth it to put him out there for 16 games. We need to bring in guys who can compete for the #2 spot. If Jarrett can beat them out during TC then great. I don't think we're getting anybody outside of the draft either.

The 16 games Colbert started were after his wonderful rookie season when moose left. They thought he could be a starter but that proved false. We then tried to bring in many FA's to replace him and failed. If Jarrett can't even get into position to be considered for #2(or even activated) I can't see any reason why he should be able to start 16 games.

If Fox sticks to his mantra of putting his best players on the field, then we'll be playing a lot of 2 TE sets this year, because both Jeff King and Dante Rosario have proven themselves superior to Dwayne Jarrett on the field.

Dwayne Jarrett, Charly Martin, Kenny Moore, Wallace Wright, Dexter Jackson.......they all have a shot at WR2/3. One of them will earn a right to play more often than the others, and yeah... then he'll be the "favorite".

Wallace made a difference as a special teamer for the Jets. I think Smith once did the same for us. Results are automatically worth more than projections. We should bet CASH MONEY to see which WR of the ones we have will get the most all-purpose yards this year.

Which one of you is going to put money on Jarrett?

Out of that group I actually would put my money on Jarrett.
