T.O. wants $5 million a year

We've consistently heard that, when it comes to free-agent receiver Terrell Owens, he needs a sizable contract in order to feel that he's being treated fairly -- even if only one team is interested in his services.

Four years ago, T.O. got 25 million reasons to live, even though the Cowboys were the only franchise willing to throw him a line. Last year, the Bills gave him another 6.5 million reasons, once again as the only team that wanted him.

John Czarnecki of FOX reports that Owens wants at least $5 million this time around, even though no one is banging on his door. We continue to hear rumblings indicating that the Bengals haven't ruled out signing Owens. The arrival of receiver Antonio Bryant complicates matters, however, due to a contract that averages $7 million per year. Owens surely will want at least that much in Cincinnati.

Czarnecki floats the Bears as a potential destination, given the desperation the team already has shown in throwing cash at Julius Peppers, Chester Taylor, and Brandon Manumaleuna.

We think that, unless someone steps up with big money before the draft, the market won't emerge until after the draft, if teams with needs at receiver aren't able to adequately address them.

I think this more than kills any psycho theories of TO in Carolina (which was a dumb idea to begin with).

too bad this has absolutly nothing to do with the panthers, y not post all these stupid articles in the other areas marked "NFL football cantral"? T.O.? Derick Anderson? LT? give me a break,

in the offseason there are no rules... well, there are a few.. posting non-panther related material in the panther forum is not one of them.

Good luck on finding anything NFL related worth reading in March... unless you enjoy baseless draft speculation.

I've learned some time ago to stop hating on people so much.. I find something I don't approve of and tend to hate on them. I find that even though I'm heavy with the hate, that I still should try to take off the blinders and realize they are just another team/player/whatever.. I have my reasons.. Sometimes someone gets entirely too much credit when really they suck (Vick).. Sometimes a team beats my team in the Superbowl and then continue to get sucked off for 6+ years after.. Some times they are bad people. Some times they are annoying as hell. Some times they talk funny.

And then some times they deserve everything they get... and when it's negative, and when people like TO finally get what they deserve, I enjoy it.

I am not a big TO fan these days. Ignoring the antics which have apparently calmed down in Buffalo here are the salary versus productions numbers.

Look at cap figures for 2009 he was the 17th highest paid receiver. Here is the list:

http://content.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/playersbyposition.aspx?pos=145

From a production point of view he was 32nd with 829 yards and around 20th counting yards per catch (15.1) from guys who caught at least 30 balls.

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&seasonType=REG&d-447263-o=2&conference=null&statisticCategory=RECEIVING&d-447263-s=RECEIVING_AVERAGE_YARDS&experience=null&d-447263-n=1&season=2009&qualified=true&Submit=Go&tabSeq=0&d-447263-p=1

I wonder what his numbers woud have been on a good team with good quarterback play. Like Smitty, he was hurt by poor quarterback play last year.

Is he worth 5 million? I will let you know after I see what Jarrett and company does.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
