"The way Matt played the last four games, he deserves all the accolades. He's a young guy, yes he is. Everybody at some point was where Matt is, a young guy waiting for an opportunity -- including myself. If Matt does what he's worked on, he'll be as good as he wants to be. But for me to say what kind of quarterback, he'll be, that's not my area."

So there you go... sorry to see some of these guys leave but that's life in the NFL. I'm sure Smitty still loves him some Jake, but at the end of the day it's about winning and that wasn't happening with Jake.

I'm greatful for everything guys like Jake, Hoov, Moose and Peppers have done - but it's silly to get all sentimental about it.

He didn't say anything that most folks don't already know. :nonod:

True, but I like that he didn't get all sentimental about it. He's one of the most senior vets on this team now, so his attitude towards these releases sets the tone for the rest of the team.

To sum up what he said: "I'll miss them, but that's life - get over it"

At least quote some of his doubt:

Comfortable with the direction the team is heading?

"This second, today? We can anticipate all day, but if the season started today, we would be down. We don't have a potential third string quarterback or a bona fide backup quarterback. We don't have a guy we're considering for Moose's spot. There's a lot of areas we're missing. So now, we're an unfinished product."

    • Deebo is maybe one of the most overrated players in a long time thanks to one bonkers fantasy season that was very much an anomaly. He has had over 892 yards receiving only one time in his 6 year career and has only 2 seasons with over 3 TD Receptions (with 7 and 6). Yes, I know his versatility and ability to take handoffs and reverses adds to what he brings, but even then, he's only had one season with more than 232 yards, and that wasn't really anything super crazy with only 365. Him getting 8 Rushing TDs in the season she also had 1,400 yards and 6 TDs rushing gave him an absurd fantasy season and I think most fans struggle to separate one crazy fantasy season output (4 years ago) for being a great player in general.
    • Link? Because you've been spouting this for years now and never do.   Also kinda hard to WANT TO be somewhere that hasnt won more than 7 games in 7 years....
