Donovan McNabb "in," could mean JaMarcus Russell "out"

Someone recently suggested that the arrival of quarterback Donovan McNabb in Oakland could be valuable for JaMarcus Russell, who could learn how to play the position while learning from McNabb.

This assumes that anyone can light a fire under a guy who would be more inclined to roast marshmallows over it.

The more likely reality, as Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News points out, is that JaMarcus could be jettisoned.

Doing so would save $6.45 million. It would also represent an admission that the decision to invest the first overall pick three years ago on Russell was one of the biggest blunders in NFL history. Still, why compound the mistake by continuing to adhere to a guy who is content that his greatest accomplishment in football was being the first name called on draft day in 2007?

McNabb should refuse to play for Oakland. For the sake of his career, which I respect, he should never suit up in black and silver, ever.

I know the Seahawks invested heavily in Charlie Whitehurst, but they should really make a move for McNabb. I think he could be a good fit there.

Plus, it's another green-themed aviary team. That has to count for something, right?

he doesn't have a choice. If hes traded he can sit out, but he will still be a Raider. he has 0 say in this.

It's really a shame when the first pick and quarterback in that draft pales in comparison to the undrafted quarterback who will be our starter next year.

I wouldn't even want Russell as a backup.

right now we don't know if the tag will be available. depends on how the bargaining agreements turn out.
