No WR on day 2....

How upset would everyone be if day two of the draft (round 2 and 3) comes to a close without the panthers selecting a wide receiver?

The only reason I ask is that if the value isn't there I could see the panthers going in a different direction and I am trying to prepare myself. Last year we desperately needed a DT and we didn't pick one until the third round after picking up two second rounders. There are definitely some day three receivers to keep your eyes on like Blair white, Riley cooper, Desmond briscoe, and Kyle Williams. We might even get lucky and price or Andre Roberts could fall into day 3....would you rather reach for one on day 2 or wait for value?

My thing with gilyard is that I see him anywhere from a solid second round prospect to a third-fourth round prospect. It makes me wonder if we are overhyping him bc he represents a huge need. Like always their will be a run of WR's at the beginning of the second and Im starting to think that we will be left with some pretty bad options. I kinda like the idea of getting Tyson alualu or maybe a linebacker or even a top notch corner (there might be plenty) in case marshall doesn't come back next year. There will be some value at our pick...Im just not sure it will be at WR.

I would be upset, but then again it would be nothing new. I still remember the year Minter retired and everyone was screaming for a safety. We didn't draft 1 until the 7th round. Our WR situation now > our safety situation then. I would love to grab one of course, and there are players who I would want to use our 2nd rounder on (Shipley, Briscoe), but I won't bust a nut if we don't.

Goes to show that just because everybody screams WR, doesn't mean it will be our first pick.

Precisely. TBH I cringe every time I see stuff like 'WR with our 2nd rounder, BPA/DT with our 3rd". I mean FFS, have these guys learned nothing after all our drafts under Fox? The FO has a few positions of need and uses their first pick on the BPA amongst those need positions. They however do NOT lock themselves into drafting their biggest need first, nor should they because that leads to reaching on busts. They do something similar to that for the 1st 3 rounds and after that, it's pretty much all BPA. I really don't understand how people (experienced NFL fans especially) can make the same mistakes here every year really.

We really need to fill 2 WR positions (a true #1 WR & a #3 WR). I think it will be difficult to find a true #1, FOR THIS YEAR, outside of round 3. We can get a developmental WR for a #1 or #2 slot, but unlikely a immediate starter. Steve Smith needs some relief in that #1 slot. I there are a couple pretty good WRs at the top of the draft (not just those per the scouting sites). I honestly like Carlton Mitchell (USF) who should easily be there (maybe even in the 3rd). I think he will get picked earlier than he is projected b/c he 'could' be a true #1 (if he works more on catching with his hands, versus body).

So, short story long...I would be a little disappointed, but I agree with not reaching. My concern is that they DID reach on Dwayne Jarrett when others teams knew he had holes in his game. Problem with Jarrett...he was maxed out in terms of potential when we drafted him. Hopefully they have learned the leasson.

The 2nd WR we need, must have the ability to return punts &/or kickoffs...I would love Jordan Shipley, b/c we need players who love the game & we build the team. He is an excellent route runner, even if not elite speed.
