Is there a WR in the 2nd that is better than Brandon Marshall?

Recommended Posts

some reports having him asking for $10 mil a season

i could see him getting TJ hous. type contract, but not that much. an article from the denver post lists carolina as one of the top 4-5 teams interested in him, although this is probably just speculation.

Thats what I was expecting (or more aptly hoping). 10 mill is quite funny.

True but when you think about our passing O it has always been Smith and Moose numero uno. Its not that hard to be a 1000 yard reciever (most WR would be happy with that) even #2 on a run 1st team. Think about it you would have to get 65 yards a game to eclipse that mark and thats not exactly a high per game average. Someone has the record for most receptions in a game will have no problem getting the ball.

And like I said I think he will be #1 and Smith will move to the slot and be a killer YAC weapon.

You act like Marshall would be happy and cool with just 1000 yards. Do you think Smith was estatic when he barley elcipsed it two years ago? Or if he played in the last game last year and got it. Do you think he then wouldve been content with the passing game he had.?

I don't belive somone like Marshall would be happy with a 65 game per avreage.

I want nothing to do with Baby TO. Brandon Marshall is extremely talented but has a head full of rocks. Couple reasons why this is a faulty idea.

1. Comparing a veteran player to untested rookies is unfair.

2. A one year rental that could turn into a salary nightmare on par with Peppers is not a situation to get ourselves in with the CBA looming and trying to lock our core players to long term deals.

3. Can B.Marshall return kicks? I honestly would rather have Mardy Gilyard for the next 4-5 years than Marshall for one.

4. Back to why Marshall has rocks for brains. His temper tantrums and off field antics can not all be blamed on McDaniels.

5. Give a young guy an opportunity to succeed. B.Marsh has had his and has successfully pissed it away. HE WILL END UP LIKE JAVON WALKER. Mark my words.

Someone will overpay (salary, draft pick,) and he will disappoint.

I think he would do better then that I was just saying that getting over a 1000 yard as a #2 on a power run team is achievable.

I think given our tendencies the last 3 weeks on O we can expect anywhere from 20-35 pass attempts per game by Moore. Most likely Marshall is the number 1 and get targeted as such around 10-12 attempts his way. If its around Marshall he'll catch it so most likely he catch 7 or 8 of those.

He averaged 11.1 YPC last (12.1 in 08) so that would be somewhere from 80-100 yards a game. 80 YPG x 16 1280 yards a season around what he has averaged at Denver. I would think he would be happy with that don't you.

Think of the record we could set that no one would touch, 4 guys on 1 Offense over 1000 yards in one season.

On the surface

Instant upgrade Super Bowl here we come

Underneath the surface

High strung me first attitude

How many N F L teams have 2 high strung me first WR ?

This is Steve's team

You would have locker room ,media, on field problems

trying to get one or both to tone their attitudes down

It Is Who They Are

Is someone actually arguing that adding Marshall would be bad? I'd love it. Will it happen? Probably about the same time Brooklyn Decker expresses her love for me.
i think the argument ultimately comes down to the long term plan for the team. if they want to be better this season, it would make sense. long term, it COULD make sense, depending on who you could get in the 2nd, and how it would affect plans to sign guys like Davis, Beason, DeAngelo, Moore, Kalil, etc... long term.

Like most people i would like to see as much talent as you can on the team, as long as it works. but, marshall seems less of a risk on the field than anyone we could pickup in the 2nd.

If we could get him for a 2nd pick, then yes I would pull the trigger.

But I don't see the Denver giving him up for a middle 2nd rounder, at the least Seattle would offer a higher 2nd rounder (Seahawks had him in for a visit).

Plus two factors against him in Charlotte, A) his numerous problems on and off field, B) his likely demand for a 'Fitzgerald' size contract; mean the Panthers wouldn't pull the trigger on him.

But him (assume his happy), Smitty, and Double Trouble; would be awesome.

This probably makes the discussion mute. Unless we offer up next years 2nd as well. Unlikely and I think your starting to take to much risk the more compensation you give up.

very true, i would think he is in the line for a contract like Boldin, 4-5 yrs at $6-7 mil, w/ about $10 mil guaranteed.

money + headaches says we steer clear

I honestly think this is why he is still a Bronco! My thought is that there are still teams interested, but choose to play the waiting game to see if Denver drops it's asking price for him.

Not really saying that it would be "bad", but I certainly don't see him putting us into the SB like some of the guys are saying.

Personally, if I were the GM, I would not bring him in. Certainly not when I have to sign a couple of my young guys to long term deals.

First off, you lose the 2nd rounder...cheap good talent, that you lock up for 4 years plus...

Secondly, you can't resign some of the young players that you have in hand now that already know the system, and are very important to long term success.....Kalil, D Will, Stew, Davis, Beason, Moore (fingers crossed), Marshall, etc.....because you have to pay another WR top 5 money.

Third, We are not sure if Moore is they guy, and a good QB prospect could slide in the draft and we would not have the 2nd to select him, or to use as trade material to go get him.

Short term success, but I really don't long term it would be good for the Panthers.

So maybe I am arguing that trading for him would be a mistake.

not to beat a dead horse, but it seems that Denver isnt getting much interest in him now, and the asking price could be lower. our 2nd could possibly get him. so i am wondering which WR in the 2nd we could honestly draft that could become the type of player he already is? he is young, strong (good blocker, essential in replacing moose), has good hands and plays hard when motivated.

Of course there are the off-field issues, but that could be fixed with a change of scenery and surrounding him with new teamates that wont take his crap (smitty and beason come to mind).

i know it is a long shot with the panthers only going after guys with a clean slate, but from a football perspective you cant do much better with that pick. we have the cap room to sign him, and our young guys. just thought i would beat this dead horse a little more....

Yes there is ...., and his name is Robert Paulson..... his name is Robert Paulson.... HIS NAME IS ROBERT PAULSON
