Yasinskas: Panthers not interested in Campbell

Mr. Scot

its not the coach thats looking past this season...its the owner

Then why is Steve Smith still on the roster?

For that matter, why re-sign Tyler Brayton? Why put the highest tender on guys like Thomas Davis and Matt Moore? If you really don't care about this season, why not just get what you could for them while they're hot commodities?

Be serious. Why on earth would John Fox just sit back and accept the dismantling of the team if he knew it meant his job? He needs this season to either earn an extension here or get a job elsewhere. He's not just going to accept the rug being pulled out from under him. The whole notion is ludicrous. And we've yet to hear a single word from anyone indicating that he's not on board with the plan.

But again, we've got the mindset that since they didn't go after the guy I think they should get, they must not be interested in winning.

This isn't "Major League" :nonod:

All of the releases they've made so far have made sense from the standpoint of "going young". Whether we like it or not, this is what they believe is the best way to win, future years and yes, this season.

Just because a couple of commentators who barely pay attention to the Panthers anyway think it's true doesn't mean it is.

All those guys you mentioned will be apart of the long term..no need to get rid of them. Fox has no choice but to go along with this.

I think these moves are coming from the top.Untill this CBA thing is figured out I think JR is preparing for 2011 and keeping whats best for the NFL 1st. We have young players that need to get out there and this may be the year to do it in JR eyes

I agree with you Scot , but the things that are not done over and over gain makes no sense.

I have no confidence that FOX will change his formula, because he never does. It does not matter if we have the players to suit his formula or not - he will still stick with the same plan.

I have no issue at all with cuts, but the fact that we did not go after a WR in free angency is inexcusable. We are extremely fortunate that Steve Smith has put up with this crap year after year . By not going after a WR in free angency in mind my proves that Fox is not changing anything.

We will never get to next level until we balance our offense

All the more reason to think were just looking past this season and prepping for 2011
Why exactly would a coach who needs to win this year in order to save his job look past this season?
plenty of reasons such as

furthermore

you forgot one.

i agree. i think your second paragraph is the main point though. This isnt a "youth movement" or our philosophy all of a sudden. lets call it what it is a opportunity to dump salaries and start over.

    • Its really wild to watch this part of the community boil down the success of the 2025 Panthers to whether or not BY9 busts or breaks out. Ill take middle of the road mistake free game manager that distributes the ball and orchestrates the offense.  If we can get that with a D that doesnt put us in a 27 point+ hole every week the team can improve. Id love a deep post season run but honestly at this point Id be ecstatic about feeling like we could win every week.   Jake is never going to get a yellow jacket but damn if he didnt make watching the team fun.
    • I consider last year Bryce's rookie year.....and I expect some regression/D adjustment in his second season in Canales' O.  Film is film.   So yeah, I agree....he won't be the dude that opened up the year week 1 or closed the door week 17.  We will get some dude in between it all most likely.  Which IMO puts us in a really awkward no man's land with Bryce.
    • The question is which Bryce shows up game 1. Do we get week 2 (2024) Bryce, or week 18 (2024) Bryce?  I will say that his progression after the benching last year was amazing. He literally got better every game - sans Dallas. Like every week he did something we hadn't seen him do before. And it wasn't luck, toss it up for grabs plays like Penix did against Carolina. Penix was just throwing the ball as hard as he could in the direction of a receiver and hoping they'd make a play for him. What we saw from Bryce was different. Decision making, reading defenses, recognizing blitzes and where they were coming from, knowing his hot, avoiding pressure and manipulating the pocket, throwing with anticipation, taking shots downfield, and running the ball surprisingly well. Stats don't always tell the story. Did he miss some throws that he should have made - sure did. But the clutch gene is strong with this one. One score game and Carolina has the ball with 2 minutes on the clock - I'm confident he'll give them a chance to win more than he doesn't.
