Panthers thin, so quarterback seems inevitable

What i would like to see done is we pick up Marc Bulger and draft one of these guys to compete with Hunter- Mike Kafka NW, Bill Stull PITT, or as wildcat QB's Dan Lefevour or Joe Webb. Moore is the starter!!! Bulger was actually a pretty good QB when he had healthy Orlando Pace protecting him. With our oline Bulger could fill in well enough for a couple games.

My only problem with drafting a QB is this...Fox isn't going to play him until the season is over anyway. And if our season sucks that bad, Fox will be gone.
that's why i don't see us really drafting a QB early. 4th round is as early as we go, imo. it will be some low risk/high reward project that any HC can work with.

with moore only having a one year deal there will be plenty of wiggle room for a new HC to do what he wants to at QB whether draft one early or bring in his own favorite FA vet. they will have essentially a blank slate to work with to build their offense around.

You speak out against doom and gloom but it sound's like you think this season is a set up for a new era.... after Fox. So we are looking past this year and going cheap for the future?

I think the Panthers like McCown and he is our "plan B" but we're waiting to see who else shakes out or becomes available before we go ahead and reel McCown back in. The Saints made an offer to McCown that he didn't accept right away, so it sounds like McCown is waiting for us to make up our minds.

If I recall correctly, we have been in communication with McCown's agent and according to his agent we're still interested, so I would wager that we've told his agent we will bring McCown back after the draft if we don't sign or trade for another veteran FA. You may ask yourself why McCown would be so loyal to us, beyond all the work-related reasons, McCown has 4 or 5 relatively young children and I'm sure he would like to avoid displacing them or being away from them as much as possible. At this point, they've settled down in Charlotte and a move to another team would disrupt that.

Charlotte is known as a very family-friendly city (one of the reasons Jenkins wanted out). Lets just say N.O. is not well know for it's wholesome family-oriented environment. McCown also realizes he has a much better shot to overtake Moore than he does Brees (understatement), so he's doing the smart thing on both a personal and professional front by waiting for us.

I think it makes sense to draft a QB anywhere from the 3-6th rounds

That way, we could still have a young potentially good backup that would only play if Moore got injured (Thus enriching our confidence with Moore & having a new safety net)

not at all what i am saying. i'm not saying that it's either/or. it's set up for a competitive season this year and a new era....with or without fox.

i'm saying that they are doing what it takes to be as competitive as possible this year AND build for the future at the same time.

none of these players or coaches can afford to have a half-assed year. they HAVE to be all in. if it works...cool. if not, it won't be the end of the world because it will be easy to move ahead and this year will be a step in the right direction. fwiw, i do expect there to be some growing pains but that's okay because they aren't settling for the status quo anymore. they are making risks moving forward and that is what they have to do to get this team a consistently winning team.
