Nobody Has Mentioned This Guy

Marcus Easley, WR of Connecticut. Nobody has mentioned him at all. Since the end of this year's NCAA football season, I've been telling people this kid's gonna be a steal in free agency. Nobody listened.

Despite not starting until game 5 of last season, he still managed to rack up big stats.

48 receptions, 893 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

That's pretty impressive for a guy playing 8 games of football at a school like UConn.

PRO DAY RESULTS: When position coaches are dispatched to a pro day, it typically signifies a definite interest in a particular prospect. Remember that when it comes to Connecticut WR Marcus Easley (6-foot-2 3/4, 211 pounds). Included among the 20 team representatives on hand for UConn's pro day were the receivers coaches from the Jets and Ravens. That could be a good sign for Easley's draft stature, and he took advantage of the attention. He stood on most of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, but posted an impressive 37 1/2-inch vertical jump and looked good in position drills.
(Per Gil Brandt of NFL.com)

According to an article I found, Easley has spoken extensively with both the Bears and Panthers. Due to outstanding combine and pro days, he has risen from Zero to Hero, and is expected to go in the 5th or 6th round instead of being a free agent after the draft as previously thought.

I say take him while we have a chance. He's an excellent athlete and will be a legitimate threat in the NFL. Mark my words.

we could solve our wide receiver problems for years with this draft alone if we do well. it's deep.

People outside the Panthers fanbase have mentioned him, like draft experts and such. But the fanbase is so stuck on all of these high rounders and big name guys that could solve our problems. We never have wide receiver success in the early rounds. Even Steve was a 3rd rounder. But I seriously think this guy could do some hard damage in the NFL.

    • Thank you so much for posting links to the players so I don’t have to copy and paste the name and look it up.
    • All signs point to legit. We’ve been way better than our record the last few years it’s just we’ve had brutal injury luck. Also I’ve watched nearly every game this year and 3 things have stood out to me even when healthy from early in the year to now: 1. Early on Lee had some brutal rotations and situational coaching but he’s improved a ton there. We lost some close ones early we should’ve won. Sure most our recent games have been blowouts but in close games we’ve improved a ton there. 2. Defense. Overall team defense has improved so much, it’s not just hot shooting winning games. This D is absolutely a real trend and sustainable. LaMelo in particular has gone from flat out bad defensively to above average. We have so much length we always should’ve been good defensively but it took time for guys to buy in and really hone in on it which they have.   3. Pretty much all our young guys have taken strides forward. Moose’s development as a passer has been insane, Miller is putting it all together to be an elite 3 tier scorer able to hit 3s, mid range and finish at the rim. LaMelo still some poor shot selection but has cut the turnovers considerably. Kon has been a great shooter all year but has steadily improved in other aspects of the game too.      It has definitely been surprising how quickly it all came together out of nowhere but really none of it surprises me. We’ve been building towards this for years now.
