Anyone else tired of this mindset?

^^ That's what I made the thread for

Sorry that I don't advocate giving up draft picks for players that have been mediocre since entering the league(save for Campbell, who has been average.)

and the Randy Moss situation isn't comparable to Ginn. Moss established a HOF career in Minnesota. He simply didn't want to play in Oakland and didn't try. None of these guys deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as him.

This is no diffrent than Hollywood producers. They do remaikes of other movies or tv shows. Even if the quality isn't that, it's the easiet money they are ever gonna make instead of funding something totally unknown.

In tough financial times, the microscope comes out and people get more clingy with their money.

:P

I hear ya. Tyler is most likely a starter so it was good value if you ask me, but what do I know?

I just dont think he has been "proven." It was just a risk to trade picks that we barely have for him, but then again I kinda suck at the whole trade and draft theory side of football.

Most mediocre players are not going to bust out for thier new teams. However there are scenarios when it will happen. What you have to look for is the situation the player was in with his former team.

Tank Tyler was at KC. He did not have a lot of help there, however he did post decent numbers. KC switched to a 3-4, Tank has no home in a 3-4. Too big and slow for a DE and not big enough for a NT. So he is expendable for the Chiefs. The Panthers look at Tank as a guy that has shown some promise on a shitty team, with some help and coaching he could become a great pick-up.

Ted Ginn on the other hand has been horrible his entire stint in Miami. He has had some decent QB's, maybe not great, but decent. Way too many highlights of balls hitting him square in the hands and he doesn't make the catch. If you are above the age of 11 and can't catch a football you are never going to learn.

the other side of that is also true. we have always had people saying that releasing *random panther player* will be a mistake because they'll take off and excel there and come back and bite us in the butt.

it doesn't happen.

Situation: Player X sucked while playing for *random team*

Panthers fan mindset: Player X just wasn't in the right situation there. He just needs a change of scenery, he'd be great here! Let's give up one of our few draft picks for him!

Yes, I'm tired of it.

i'd have to agree with you... but sometimes you do get lucky. you have to be smart about what you give up for player X. like a 5th rounder for tank... not bad. but if we had given up say... a 2nd or 3rd, then i'd question the logic there. if we gave up a 6th for ginn, i wouldn't be that upset. he'd be a good addition to our bolstered special teams, but i'd still would take a receiver in the draft since ginn isn't that great of a receiver.

Not nearly as tired of the "What could have been" crowd as I am of the whole "Holy crap, look how good we're gonna be with the latest crappy 3rd string CB Detroit cut and we got!!!" crowd. And nobody can honestly think that such names as Brian Witherspoon, Todd Carter, and Marcus Hudson are what we were thinking of as FA pickups.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
