Goodell decides to take on the World Series

Commissioner Roger Goodell said the decision to schedule a game this season opposite the World Series was simple. People want their football.

"The rationale is that Sunday Night Football has become a staple," Goodell said on NFL Network Tuesday night. "People want to watch football for the entire season. We didn't feel like it was appropriate to take it off any more."

The NFL is not prone to taking half-step measures, so they scheduled a whopper for October 31: The defending champion Saints versus the Steelers, annually among the league's biggest draws.

"We felt like it was best to continue on with that great franchise (SNF) every night of the season and allow the consumer to be able to choose whether they want to watch Sunday Night Football or the World Series."

What the consumer decides could mark an embarrassing moment for the men running that other sport.

Baseball is dead, that is all.

Is that based on the record breaking revenue year they had of $6.6 billion or the fifth highest attendance in MLB history? Not going to argue that the NFL isn't king ($7.7 billion in revenue) because it is but to say baseball is dead is pretty laughable.

ridiculous....who would watch a regular season football game when the WS is being played? I mean the only way i will watch football that day is if the Yankees are in the WS

It's still baseball, just the final series of the year and a lot more press and hype. Basically it's two guys playing catch with a dude carrying a large stick tyring to interrupt it.

    • It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.
    • And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited
    • Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
