Do you really think the goal of this season is to win?

Its possible this team could surprise some people this year especially in the NFC South with it being so compeitive among all the teams except Tampa Bay who was just terrible last season. I guess its possible, I hated losing Lewis and Kemo and Harris but I understand the circumstances of why we certainly lost them. This will certainly be an interesting season.

Front office goal: Be prepared for potential lockout financially, be prepared to return from lockout without aging unproductive players in order to entice fans back

Coaching goal: Put best effort forth with what you have to work with.

Player's goals: Win every game. Period. This is my chance.

Fan's goals: Dear God........please?

That's a great post...LOL! I would've looked at it from the same manner!

I'm by no means convinced this is a rebuilding year... The majority of the players we lost/cut were aging veterans, well past their prime... Peppers was never going to resign here, and not paying him a 23 million salary was the right thing to do... Brown was drafted last year for the sole purpose of being able to step in once Pep left... So that was planned for... Delhomme was a mess... I hate he's gone, but agree with the move... Smith needed help, and got plenty of fresh blood in the WR corps... The OL is still intact... The RB's are still intact... Hoover was a fan favorite, but has nearly a decade of wear on his tires... It's clear the Panthers have questions about his durability, and have confidence in Fiametta... The CB's are solid... The Safeties are young, but talented, and have experience in the system... I don't expect much dropoff in performance there... I hate to lose Harris, but he can be replaced with talent already on the roster... The LB's are among the best in the game... Very solid, and deep crew... The weak link on the team is DT... Kemo obviously had some concerns... I hated to lose Lewis, but we do still have some talent there... Not deep, not great, but for that to be the weakest point on the team, with time to address it... I can live with that... This should not be a throw away season... We lost some vet leadership, but we still have plenty in the locker room... Beason... Smith... Gross... Kasay... Etc...

I sincerely believe this team will surprise plenty of folks this year...

Rep for you sir. Well said.

I like what we're doing, that doesn't mean next year won't be a disaster but look at the competition we have for the positions up for grabs. That should bring out the best in some players. We got a lot of question marks and a lot of potential to do some great things. One thing is for sure though, we got a great running game and a good offensive line to help our Quarterback.

Look, we draft players hoping they can play someday. Not so they can be backups. I'm excited about the Defense and Offense. I feel like the Offense will be good though, I'm a little worried about the Defensive Line but I like Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard. Ed Johnson could end up being a good pick up. Who knows but I'm looking forward to finding out.

You guys are misreading the post, I agreed the panther's will try to win this season (for half the year's money as last but that's ok), I am not doubting that. They are going up against bigger odds, can't really be argued.

but winning in the future seems to be the main goal. Whether Fox is in that future or not, obviously depends on this year...so kind of a challenge for him...

I am not an off season hater, this is why you guys are misinterpreting what I'm saying, I love everything that has been done besides the Edwards pick, everything else including cutting players I liked. When I think of rebuild mode I just think of a lot of untested players coming in to be tested.

I am going to tell you right now, and everyone else that has reservations about that pick, EDWARDS WILL BE AWESOME. Possible steal of the draft.

He didn't play QB at App. St. because he was a great QB. He played QB because he was such an exceptional athelete that they wanted the ball in his hands every single play. He is going to be VERY good.

I swear its amazing how many sensitive people we have on this forum. I think you guys are completly missing the OPs point. Hes saying this season is more about evaluating talent than it is about trying to win championships/divisions/etc. If they make the playoffs GREAT but that would only be a bonus because thats not the real goal. In years past the teams goal was to win the super bowl. When a team says they're going in a youth movement they are telling you in advanced that this a rebuilding season. Thats not being negative or being an "offseason hater" its just reality.
