Panthers linebacker Davis willing to wait for contract

Recommended Posts

(By Charles Chandler and Darin Gantt, [email protected] and [email protected]) Panthers outside linebacker span class=boldThomas Davis /spansays he doesn't expect the team to try to sign him to a long-term deal anytime soon, but that he doesn't plan on going anywhere else.p/I feel like it's something that happens down the road, said Davis, acknowledging that the labor dispute between NFL owners and the players' association has the Panthers and other teams hesitant to sign a player to a lucrative new deal until after a new collective-bargaining agreement is in place.

"I'm definitely looking to finish my career here and (am) very excited about the possibility," he said. "I've just got to line up and play football and make this team want to sign me to a long-term deal."

This is the definition of a stand-up athlete, I love TD and I think he is going to be one of the guys that steps us a leader this season and gets the D fuging pounding!!

Agreed, can't wait to see him lay some big hits alongside Beason and the rest of the D.

Veteran departures, youth movement, rumblings of "cheap" followed by Fox saying "budget".....meanwhile Williams and Davis are due for contract renewal...........

Hopefully these guys are top priority for this franchise. They went from questionable draft picks to their current status of pro bowl caliber starters as Carolina Panthers. Now they are part of the veteran leadership while still a couple years shy of thirty years old. I don't think they are expendable at this point. Get them signed up.

If I controlled the budget, he'd have his cut in there....maybe the F.O. sees things the same way.

Same here. I was being sarcastic, criticizing the use of the "budget" as a reason for making questionable decisions.

    • I know I’m grasping at straws but I believe this is our ‘get right week’.   Fug them dirty birds, panthers eat this weekend. Lesgo.
    • I’m guessing Canales will want to try and establish the run early. Atlanta knows that if they stop our run game, Bryce and these WRs aren’t going to win the game on their own so they’ll be keying on the run and likely have the personnel and scheme to be successful. The run game won’t work early. Atlanta will get out to a 10-0 or 10-3 lead.  Canales will then go back to the pass game with Bryce dropping back 3/4 of all plays. In that scenario we lose the turnover battle. -2 is my guess.  Past is prologue with this team.  Atlanta will get their run game going and can just as easily beat us through the air if not. Sorry, but Carolina is not competent enough to beat a good Falcons team.  We trail throughout the entire game.   Atlanta    10   7   7   3   27 Carolina   3   6   7   3   19
    • Yeah, I don't think it would. Might want to review the tape on the past two preseasons with him. The game I saw there was a massive gulf between him and Kyle Allen. Hence why he got cut.
