If fox is let go does hurney stay?

If John fox is not retained which I'm almost indifferent to at this point, do you think Marty will stay around? I for one think hurney is a very valued commodity. If in order to retain hurney we must retain fox I'd be with that too. Thoughts, team?

I could care less to tell you the truth. He is a good GM but his decision making has cost us as well. I want Gregory to stay. And please let Marc Ross be the 1st name we call if he does walk.

oh well on the delhomo and peppers fiasco. The gift of hind-sight is so amazing. I mean, its not like he made super bad decisions at the time. His talent evaluation is also pretty good. From day 1 (steve smith) to just recently (Captain Munnerlyn) i know greg is leads the college scouting dept, but who the f**k has final say so?

Kiss my a$$ I get so sick of the "Hindsight" argument. A GM is judge based on the heights of his successes and the depth of his failures. And for the record on both accounts (Pep and Jake) I predicted we would regret the decisions we made last off-season.

We wouldn't have had to extend Jake if we weren't cap screwed. We wouldn't have been cap screwed if A. Pep had never been tagged or B. Hurney hadn't of put us in cap hell to begin with.

And if you look back at our drafts before Gregory and compare them to the ones we are having now, its night and day. And oh yeah BTW Smtih was a Seifert pick.

one thing is for certain. he fits well with the team since he drafted just about every single one of them. i hope they do whatever it takes to get him to sign that deal. we are invested at this point

I think the main reason he still hasn't signed his deal is he wants to follow Fox because he knows what he wants in players. Both scheme and personality Hurney can spot a Fox guy a mile away. People fear change if he stays he would have to start scouting for a completely different coach and scheme.

Fine, let's forget hindsight.

While you're finding a GM who's been employed by the same team for longer than four years who hasn't made a mistake, consider the percentage of our team that is made up of our own draft picks and the record of our team, which has not had the benefit of a franchise QB, while Hurney has been the GM. And when you get tired of trying to find a GM who hasn't made a mistake, maybe you can look for one who's got a better record in that time, without a franchise QB on the roster.

Let me know what you find out. :)

Or we could shoot to be more then average but go ahead and accept mediocrity. Heres another a fun fact whens the last playoff game we won? IDK about you but I kind of want my team to do better then make the playoffs every 2 to 3 years.

If we shoot to be more than average then we've already scored.

If you want to win a playoff game, tell me what the GM needs to do for you. Hurney's kept this team stocked with talent almost since he arrived. And he's done it through Free Agency and the draft. He's also been very good at managing the cap.

Still waiting on the better performers out there. Or did you decide not to look because you already knew the answer, and how it would completely undermine your point?

Better performers are you serious.

Patriots

Steelers

Colts

Ravens (iffy)

Giants

Basically the ones you see in the playoffs year in and year out. Thats just off the top of my head I'm sure I'll think of more. If you think Hurney is some GM god or something fine I for one don't think hes all that special which is why in my original comment I said he was good but I won't care if he walks.

Tom Brady

Big Ben

Manning

Panthers have more wins since 2002

Panthers have more wins since 2002, and Jerry Reese is in his third year.

Are you one of those guys who throws out the instructions when you set out to build something? You don't seem to pay close attention to what you read...

Neither Hurney nor Fox should be fired, but I believe I've heard from more than one place that Hurney received an offer for a contract extension before the draft and tabled it so he could focus on the draft. Hurney's said in the past that he'd be here as long as the Big Cat wants him, so I don't think we're in any danger of losing one of the best GMs in the NFL.

I suspect that if Fox is gone the coaching staff is as well. Unless they pick some one internally like Meeks or Davidson the coaching staff have no loyalty to the team after not being given extensions. Hurney likes the decision by committee approach. If someone like Cowher were brought in who would want total control over player personnel, Hurney would be gone. I suspect he hasn't signed his contract yet for that reason.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
