Darelle Revis wants $20 million a year

All-galaxy cornerback Darrelle Revis reportedly wants $20 million.

No, I don't mean $20 million over the length of a multiyear contract, or in guarantees.

That's the figure National Football Post columnist Michael Lombardi reported Revis has requested to remain with the New York Jets. To be specific, Lombardi wrote Revis' desired contract "exceeds $20 million a year."

Shortly after ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini read this, he popped the eyeballs back into his head and noted in his blog that Revis' dream deal would be not only the richest contract for any cornerback, but also more than a franchise quarterback.

Peyton Manning's annual average is $14 million.

He'll probably get it too. I can't wait to see these teams struggle when the cap returns.

No way he will ever get that. He is under contract until 2012 and even then the franchise tag for wide receivers is around 10 million. He could be tagged for five years and still not make more than 20 million a season. He may be a great corner but he is no where close to the most important guy on the defense let alone the team. He will be 27 when his current contract ends and will likely get one big payday. If they decide to say he outplayed his rookie deal, they will lock him for five more years meaning he will be a Jet until 2017. By then he will be over 30 and rich but not as rich as he thinks he should be. Hard to feel sorry for him.

damn. you stole my word. absurd was my first thought when i read the title of this thread. he's more of an idiot than peppers.

Idk about that one, peppers left us for more money and went to a team worst off than us, while Revis plays for arguably the best defensive team in the league and could possibly win a ring this year. I doubt peppers will ever have a ring, the $$ is more important to him as a person and a player...

I agree that he's not worth even CLOSE to that much $$, but...

he definitely IS the most important player on that defense. he's the best defensive player in the league.

No he isn't. He had 54 tackles and 6 pics. Sure good numbers but the best he does it take away one player from the offense. Without a killer pass rush he would be good not great.

Revis's contract voids after this year since he reached certain percentage of plays. The Jets have the option to buy the last 2 years back (5M for 11, but 15M for 12) but going long term would be in better interests in case of a return of the cap.

poo like this is one of the reasons JR is trying to influence a new CBA using his current Panthers payroll as an example. I hope it works. No player is worth that now or 5 years from now considering what these guys were getting paid 5 years ago. That is a stupid figure.

Plus, once the refs cracked down on him in the playoffs, he was not as effective.

    • I love this draft because they picked the right OL.  It is possible that we have 2 rookies starting on the OL.  I would take Utah's Lomu as well, but for those who think you find the OL in free agency and not the draft, here is all I have to say:  We cannot give $110m to the 5 starting OL.  We need an infusion of youth on the OL as well.  If Ickey returns and can play, I imagine that he takes over for Hunt at RG--in 2027 or so.  Currently, our 2 guards and right tackle make up over 20% of the total cap.  We have to add 2 starters, but if Cade Mays was too pricey at around (anticipated) $8m, then we plan to draft a C, it seems. I think we draft an OT and C now because we will need a G or 2 and a RT soon.  While they were good in 2026, they were not elite.  For that kind of $$, we need elite.  Is starting a rookie LT and C ideal?  Nope.  But if we can get better than Nijman and Mays, we should be OK. I think we will pick up an ILB in free agency and add an ILB.  Who we draft (Mike or Will) will depend on who we sign.  Rodriguez is a favorite of mine, but if Golday is there, Morgan is going to take him.  Morgan will love him. I do not think we need to overpopulate the edge position right now because we have 1 edge returning from injury (Jones II), one rookie from last year ready to step up and could be really good (Scourton), and another who could be ready to step into the situational pass rusher role (Princely).  2 hold the edge very well and if we had a situational pass rusher to join Princely, we could be much better. I think rookies at Edge tend to jump considerably from their rookie seasons to years 2 and 3.  (Charles Johnson, Mike Rucker, and Greg Hardy were that way-and all became very good in time. Safety seems omitted, but we shall see.  That could be another free agent acquisition.
    • Id like Evans from Duke in the draft as a shooter for the second unit. And probably a more athletic big to replace all, he's good but doesn't really fit the style. White, Evans, green, Williams and center tbd is a pretty good second unit
