watching game 2 tonight made me like it even more. that was really exciting. i am bummed i missed out on the hurricanes stanley cup! i wish i could have been a fan at the time.

GREAT moment. i might cry if the panthers ever win the big one. this was a huge moment for Carolina pro sports though. i watched it live:

Even though you can't see the puck in SD, if you've watched enough of it you don't need to see it to know where it is. The way the players react will show you.

Now, for someone learning to watch it, this doesn't work well and I think it's a big part of the reason why the sport has grown recently as more games are in HD.

Obviously, the rule changes (or changes to the rules being actually enforced) has a lot to do with it but I think HDTV has helped too.

It's such a simple game, but yet not simple. Great game. And a huge amount of agility and flexibility is required to play goalie. Unless you can find a guy that's bigger than 4x6

Also if you're going to follow it, the Canes are a great team to follow. Within a few games you'll understand 80-90% of what's going on and why the players are doing what they do. Johnny Forslund and Tripp Tracy are also two of the best in the business at calling the games and will explain subtle nuances in the action.

Since there hasn't been any football in 3 1/2 months,I've been watching a lot of hockey.Did watch a little bit of Bobcat ball, but they got swept. When it comes to playoff hockey or playoff basketball,it's not even close.Hockey=exciting not stop;basketball=yawn!Yeah,I'll watch playoff basketball if I'm at a sports bar and it's the only thing on.I'm also reminded that I'm really in the south when I turn on sports radio. It's all NBA playoffs, not 1 mention of the Stanley Cup!

I disagree. especially when the game is on the line late and you need 1 big shot to win.

Wife tried watching the Flyers game with me last night and was saying how she loved seeing a game in person but can't watch it on TV.

She then said "The one thing that I remember about the Flyers is when that Wayne Gretzky guy used to play for them" (which he didn't). Right after she said that, Chicago scored on the Flyers. Minutes later she started arguing with me that she was sure he played for the Flyers, then Chicago scored again. I then smothered her with a pillow and slept soundly knowing I will be a ble watch game 3 in peace.

Hockey is a great sport and one of the most exciting, especially playoff hockey - there is nothing like it. There is action going on all over the ice = great skating, a pass, a hit/check, shot, save, goal, etc. Another thing is play can continue without stoppage for minutes at a time even longer. (unlike bball which has a whistle blown ever 5 secs.)

If the Hurricanes played in Charlotte I would be a season ticket holder no doubt.

No words describe winning the Stanely Cup:

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
