Armanti Edwards named SoCon Athlete of the Year

Last week, Edwards received the Bob Waters Male Athlete of the Year award by the Southern Conference. Edwards is no stranger to accolades as he became the first person in Football Championship Subdivision history to win the Walter Payton Award in back-to-back years. That award is given to the top performer in the FCS, much like the Heisman Trophy is given to the top athlete in the Football Bowl Subdivision as voted on by the media.

If not for the drafting of QB Tony Pike, the Panthers might have been able to save an extra roster spot by also using Edwards as their #3 QB. Often the Titans, Colts, and maybe a few other teams only carry 2 QB's on their 53 man roster (I prefer 3 QB's though, because it allows the team an extra emergency 46th player for the 45 man game day roster).

If Edwards were only 2 inches taller, then his future might still be at QB. I always described him (as a QB) as Michael Vick, with accuracy.
