Scout's Inc. Reviews Our Linebacking Sityeeation

Can't say I disagree.....

The loss of Thomas Davis (knee) for the season is brutal. I was extremely high on Davis before his series of major knee injuries. He was ready to explode onto the scene as one of the premier 4-3 outside linebackers. But football is a rough sport and injuries happen, so discussing Davis further is a rather moot point.

The acquisition of Jamar Williams was extremely timely and he will make the loss more bearable. Williams didn't play a ton of snaps for the Chicago Bears, as Lance Briggs is entrenched on the weak side in Chicago. When Williams did get on the field, he played exceptionally well. As much as I like Davis, the drop-off might not be massive...

Good write-up. I think the idea of having jamar williams instead of dan connor is a good thing also. Im not too sure about jamar williams but I have seen Dan connor play before and I wasn't all that impressed.

I was under the impression no man could impress you anyway. ;)

Jamar Williams was mana from heaven, considering he was a throw-in to the Harris trade. You don't register 18 tackles in a single game by accident, this guy has been ready to explode for a few years in Chicago and will have great success here.

Granted losing Davis is a loss but I feel we lose very little because of the talent we still have at LB. Williams is a very competent and when the Bears lost Biggs Williams stepped up.

What I would like to see is a discussion on how will we get pressure on the qb.Does anyone have any insight on how Meeks can pull this off? I would love to know. Can Norwood be an impact player on sacks. Can our tackles get enough push on the qb?I do not see a DE that will get consistant pressure on the QB?Will we blitz?

I know there are people in this forum that have far greater insight than I do and I would like to see more discussion surrounding our DL:rolleyes:

this.

Keep Beason in the middle, and let Jamar and Anderson man the other LB spots.

I agree. Beason is one of the best MLBs in the game. Why mess with that?

WLB is more important than MLB in Meek's defense than MLB. On top of that, they were giving Davis some pretty big responsibilities. That's why they've been experimenting with Beason at WLB.

At this point when Reggie Bush spilts out to the slot I would rather see Beason on him than Jamar Williams. I think Jamar Williams may end up being a steal. He isn't going to take long to grasp the defense and he did look very good in his limited playing time.

Pre-season will be fun to watch all the experiments.

It's been looking like there's a good chance we'll run Connor at Mike, Beason at Will and Anderson at Sam. Is Williams more suited to play SLB or WLB? I think at this point Anderson is pretty cemented in at the Strong-side. If Williams could do well at WLB it would allow us to keep Beason in the middle.

    • Them playing behind a couple more seasoned guys until they get familiar with coverage and pace of play is a good thing though. We really can use them to spell the other guys, and in situational ball especially with Ransom on possible run/blitzing downs.
    • They fuged him over so bad to help cover their bad judgement. About time he got a little something to wrk with.
    • I think completion percentage is a bit of a overinflated stat for a qb too. People place to much stock into it. So many factors to consider with it : receivers, how many attempts are made deep, the defense etc all play a roll in it. When it’s considerably low 50% or less the QB accuracy can come into question. But I don’t think it’s necessarily one of the better percentages to put so much importance into for that position. General effectiveness is far more indicative of the QB you have. First downs, 3rd and 4th down conversions, points scored and clutch plays IMO is how you grade a QB. Always bothered the poo out of me how people downed Cam for his completion percentage and that’s what they used to disregard him as an all time great. Dude damn near averaged 3tds to 1 turnover a game and was an obvious difference maker for us.
