Pretend everyones Angel "Matt Moore" gets hurt early, and Jimmy goes in....

What would your expectations be?

For me- Not much, but it would prove to be some exciting football just because of the unknown.

And for the record I dont wish that to happen, Jimmy needs AT LEAST a year holding a clipboard.

We put a second round pick into a guy that was supposed to be a first-round pick and ran an offense very similar to ours in college. Cantwell is #2 on the depth chart right now because he's been with the Panthers longer than Clausen has, and Fox will initially stick with the veteran. Clausen will be our #2 QB once we go into the season.

Now, if Moore gets hurt, then we'll probably "dumb" down the offense a bit and rely more on the running game. With a stout offensive line and a top-notch running game, we should be able to support Clausen until he gets a firm grasp on our offense and we can open things up some more.

Even with the best rushing attack and best defense in the NFL all the while throwing the ball the least amount of times out of any starting QB, Mark Sanchez still had the typical rookie QB season.

So Clausen would be fun to watch but there would be some games where he just gets mauled. Hopefully he doesn't have to play this season unless he's really the better guy.

And we should all feel confident that what Clausen might give us wouldn't be any worse than what Delhomme did give us last year.

I would want Jimmy to play. Hunter Cant-do-well has been a mediocre college player and a NFL backup for a reason.

You invested a 2nd round pick on a "franchise QB" and it's not like our o-line is awful and he'll be running for his life.

I seriously would expect a good year statistically from him. Not so much a Matt Ryan rookie year but more TD's then Int's and about 2500 yds.

Good question about Hunter Cantwell. What is the fuss? Well, he might be a diamond in the rough. He has better tools than our other QBs. He has spent some time getting used to the offense. Don't take him lightly. His work ethic is phenomenal.

It would not hurt Clausen to spend a year as #3. He needs the perspective. We have the luxury of developing Clausen and not risking Ryan Leaf/Tim Couch/Joey Harrington/Jamarcus Russell/David Carr/ etc. etc. syndrome.

One of Clausen's "problems" is entitlement, so they say. He is so good he has never had to compete for a job. We won't get his best until he does. Cantwell is working his butt off, and Clausen needs to know that he better as well. I am not saying he is not, but I am saying that you don't know what fighting is until you have fought for your life.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
