Gazette think's Jarrett may be released

Recommended Posts

Like previously posted, DJ is young still. I also don't think he'd make a great slot receiver so that might be why Kenny Moore beat him out. Now that Moose is gone I think he gets his shot. I wouldn't label him a bust just yet. That's just my opinion. I think the guy can play and help contribute to our team. He just needs the chance really.

I love how you can make claims like this when he plays under a coach who rarely uses young players at skill positions

Martin and Moore were less experienced than Jarrett, why did Fox play them over him?

Also, Fox gives preference to vets. But that preference doesn't involve deactivating poeple. If they're good enough to contribute he'll get them on the field, or at the very least activate them.

plays in a run heavy offense that hardly uses 3 wide sets

That's no excuse for being deactivated. We'll use 3 WR sets when we actually have 3 decent WRs, Ricky Prohel produced just fine. So did Drew Carter.

and most importantly had one of the three worst QB's in the league at the helm (completely forgot the fact that Jake only threw the ball to two receivers it's really so obvious it needs not to be mentioned).....I have a feeling Jarrett will silence his critics this year, if he doesn't so be it he's a bust and cut him....

Plenty of rookie recievers like Mohamed Massaquoi, Sammie Stroughter, and Louis Murphy came into the leauge this year and blew Jarrett away with horrible QB play. None of these guys had the advantage of having a QB playing lights out for 5 games either.

he's had 5 games with Matt Moore from 07 to 09 and he didn't do diddly. I don't remember him lighting it up in pre-season either. There was that magical game against the Saints when they had nothing to play for and pulled their starters. 100% of his production with Moore came from that game.

Jarrett doesn't have or deserve any excuses.

How many times do I have to quote Hurney from a WFNZ interview earlier in the year?

"It's up to him (Jarrett) if he starts."

That's ALL you need to know. Stop blaming Jake, stop blaming Fox and Davidson, and stop blaming Double Trouble's success. If Jarrett had shown he was READY to play more, he'd have played more. He's obviously shown them next to nothing OFF the field, which is where they gameplan. I guess he never listened to Smitty when Smith told him he should be studying the playbook. Of course he has talent, but it takes more than that to see playing time.

I don't get the love affair on here for this kid. We all turned on Eric Shelton, Drew Carter, Keary Colbert, etc. very quickly. Why do some of you keep giving Jarrett a pass?

That's been the hardest thing to figure out for me too. I don't see why he's so different. I want the guy to succeed but he hasn't shown anything.

He doesn't drop passes. Dropped passes turn fans on receivers. Not getting open is what he has been accused of but that is a less tangible offense.

I agree...can anyone tell me a time when Dwayne had the ball thrown to him and he didnt make a play. Almost all of his catches have been tough catches in traffic where he has been hammered and he holds on. The guy might have the best hands on the team...heck wait until lafell starts dropping wide open passes and people will be salivatin for jarrett. I really think he is going to have a great preseason and silence the critics and solidify himself as a solid number two whenever smitty comes back. That way lafell and Edwards can learn and get better.

Also watch out for gettis...anyone realize that he is one of the bigger wideouts on the team 6'3" 217lbs and also the fastest with 4.38 speed? He is so raw though but could be a bigtime player if he developes properly.

Jarrett came into the league so damn young. He was just too immature and had (still has in many ways) a serious lack of focus. It was clear that Jarrett didn't have a strong drive to excel. He seemed apathetic...Smitty didn't like him...

Last year he couldn't hold on to the #3 spot, which was largely due to his lack of consistency in practice, route running, and blocking ability. Will he improve in all of those areas in one offseason? Hard to imagine...

What he does have going for him is size and great hands. I would love to see him step up and own the #2 WR spot, but if Lafell and/or Edwards outplay him in camp...

maybe we should just cut him.

Dwayne Jarrett could "easily" be released before the season opener if he doesn't show improvement in August, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Sweet job Gazette...way to go out on a limb there.

Every team in the league has about 50 or so guys that fit that exact situation

I think they will give the wr the opportunity to make that call but if he cannot win the number 2 spot I think we need to cut him.I have spoken to a team member that stated he has great hands but has trouble learning the play book and running precise routes.Although he did not say it, I got the feeling he may have a learning disability

i still think it is more than that. the legend that Fox sticks w/ vets ain't true but it is true that Fox likes and invest in certain players and sticks w/ them too long. Moose lost it last season. Yes, Jake was bad but Moose was sad. No reason for Moose to of kept the #2 spot...even w/ his blocking. Jarrett could and should have moved up last year but Fox was not going to demote Moose.

Wow you are just throwing darts at a board here and reading what they land on.....D.J. is praised for his practice performance on a regular basis, also D.J. has developed into a more then serviceable blocker all you have to do is watch the games to see some of the blocks he has been able to seal off. Also lets be honest the biggest reason the guy didn't hold down the #3 spot is because he doesn't play special teams and Moore does....
