Why do cigarette smokers...

I'm a smoker, and one that litters more often than not, and I completely understand where you're coming from. I've started to be more conscious of it because it bothers the hell out of me when people litter in my neighborhood but I do it every day, just on a smaller scale. I know I'm a hypocrite. I've ben trying to get into the habit of flicking off the cherry and flicking out any remaining tobacco in the butt and then putting the used filter in my pocket until I reach a trash can. But I do smoke in my car and I never use the ash tray. It's a just one horrible habit that accompanies another horrible habit. There's no excuse.

I'm glad you agree... now stop it. Better yet, quit smoking, it's gonna kill you.

My dad and grandad both smoked... I nagged my dad enough that he quit when I was about 10. I never had the desire, probably because they smoked and I hated it.

If I don't have a trash can near by I will stick them in my pocket before I throw them on the ground. It's usually while I'm working and walking around. I work alone so I don't really care about the smell.

Fwiw, its not just Smokers that do that. They are just the most noticeable. Walk down a road and you will see beer and soda cans and bottles, fast food wrappers etc... on the side.
