Steve Smith Back To Work

Steve Reed reported the good news Monday that WR Steve Smith participated in his first full padded practice on Monday, saying afterward, “I’m tired.”

Smith had worn shoulder pads in a light workout in shorts last Friday.

Reed also reported that QB Jimmy Clausen (toe) and OT Jordan Gross (ankle) were held out of work with minor injuries.

Awesome, maybe we can see what our true offense will look like vs the titans j-stew and smitty out there will change everything..

The fact that Smitty is back doing full practices is certainly great news.

Hopefully, his being back is what our offense needs to get it jump started.

If Stewart can play against TEN,it goes without saying it would also be a big offensive plus. Something sorely needed.

I honestly don't care if Stewart plays at all during preseason.

Although I'd like to see Steve Smith get some field time, with our other receivers.

Eh, I would like to see Stewart play just so they can sit D-Will. Plus, he does need to get used to game speed again.

After reporting that Steve Smith practiced in full pads Monday for the first time in his recovery from a broken left hand,FoxSports.com then had this to say.

"It remains uncertain if Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith will play in a preseason game."

''I can't make a prediction based on the first day,'' Smith said ''I'm gassed today so I just have to try to get out and hopefully feel better tomorrow.''

THe only reason Smitty needs to play in a preseason game would be to establish timing with the quarterbacks and frankly that is what practice is for. There is absolutely no reason at all for Smitty to play in a preseason game. What they need to do is establish the two starters this week and let them play for 3 quarters to see what happens. I really believe that for example putting in Jarrett and Moore for example and letting them get work for more than a few plays at a time would seriously imporve our passing attack. If they suck after a half, go with LaFell and Wright for example in the second half. Guys like Edwards and Gettis will get the lion's share of work next week.

If you see Fox, pass it on.:D

The pass game is so stanky I'm getting a little impatient. I wouldn't object if they put him out there just for a distraction.

If we had a healthy Smitty and called the run as often as we would in a regular season game then things would look a lot better. Whether you believe the passing game genuinely sucks or not, they would have a much easier job.

    • I swear Morgan didn't have 1st(#1 overall) or a 2nd rounder in this rebuild.......Then his first 2nd rounder that he gave up two 5ths for is now out for basically 2 years..... Football is not forgiving....
    • This. They better not even think about bringing him back if they are short on TE's.
    • MHS, You are missing Claudin Cherelus is a LB that's in the mix for the 4th spot. He's been here for 2 years and had a couple injuries. I mean he was a wavier claim and been here for evero system, just had bad luck when given a chance. Jon Rhat is the current leader mainly cause of he is the ST ace. But Id say, Cherelus has the same % to make the roster.  CB has the recent wavier claim of MJ Devonshire a 2024 7th rounder. He's got the good-great combine numbers but he's small size. Still he's in the mix for backup duties, in fact all the non-UDFA are wavier claims.  ______________________________________________________________   Dam shame about Clowney. I view this as a bad move. I feel clowny is well worth the 7.7, even as a backup. He played hard the whole year without help. I just feel he would have helped more than either DJ Johnson or Barno.  My only cope is he's 32 and at any point his miro-knee could force him to drop off a cliff performance-wise. I wanted to keep him around at least until the trade deadline and if no chance at playoff, flip him for a anything. NFL is a meat grinder, no love for locals....
