England or Australia?

I'm going for my semester abroad at the University of Brighton on the coast of England just south of London.

I'm leaving in 9 days.

Either way, I'm sure you'll have a blast. I feel like I'm having a blast and I'm not even on the plane yet. Just the excitement is a lot by itself.

Figure out what you want out of the experience. If it's purely academic.. choose the better school. If it's the weather, know that Australia is warmer and drier than England.

If it's the travel, there are awesome places in Australia to visit, but England gives you access to the rest of Europe and there's excellent travel within the UK (though you'll probably want to stay away form N.Ireland).

If it's the nightlife, I don't know how New South Whales will be able to compete with London.

Chances are it's a combination of all those things, so just weigh which ones are more important to you and pick the location that bets fits those.

If you're interested, I'll be doing a study abroad blog documenting my travels. Basically to keep my friends/family back home updated if we can't Skype as often as I'd like or whatever. I can give you the link and maybe you'll get some insight into what life in England is all about.

Just go somewhere, please! I got opinions on study abroad from many people before I decided I wanted to do it, and the far and away conclusion was that it was one of their best experiences and they wouldn't trade it for anything.

I go to uncc ReturnofFox. Thanks for all the replies please keep them coming. fug it's just hard to decide, I think Australia would be amazing but at the same time Europe is just something that everyone has to do in their life.

I'm at UNCC, too.

I can't remember for the life of me what her name is... but there's a student who works in the office of ed abroad who went to Australia for her study abroad. Maybe her name is Rebecca? And Lisa, one of the staff and program advisors, was in England and she's very nice.

Yeah I've been over to the international studies dept. Melissa Watkins is my advisor for this, she's been to both places. She's basically saying their both great. I'd honestly like to apply for both since it would give me more time but it cost me some money haha. Which she says is not worth doing anyway.

I went to school for a year in England. It was a great experience. But you will have weeks where it is cold, dark, and wet and you start to get miserable. London is a great town but expensive. Many parts of England are crap.

I have never met anyone who came back from Australia without glowing things to say.

Also Aussie's truly like Americans. most Brits are very condescending towards yanks although they do it so politely that you may not notice

I don't think you can make a bad choice but i might lean towards Australia

I can't decide and it's not even me going. Cold and rainy vs snakes and spiders.

that about sums it up. the wildlife in australia is second to none... its a wild (and sometimes dangerous) place.

fun story: i spent a week in the wollemi wilderness of australia, lived in a secluded cabin in the middle of the mountains... every night as soon as i turned the light off, spiders would come crawling literally out of the woodwork and all over everything. i'd wake up to a bite on the arm and feel a half dozen scurry off of my body when i sat up. eventually i realized i'd either sleep and get bitten, or just wouldn't sleep... not much of a choice. i had a bit of arachnophobia before australia... that cured me of it once and for all.

or you could go to england and tell stories about afternoon tea. :bigear:

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
